So I have my iPhone and I've finished flicking through photo's and got bored of trying to learn to use the keyboard so I guess I need to install some apps.

So far I have iPint, which I've tired off already. I also have the Facebook app with doesn't work and keeps asking me to re-enter my username and password so I've got bored of that too.

What other apps should I try? Is there a IM client that supports Jabber or MSN?

ok i unlocked my first gen iphone last night and got some apps.

shazam is amazing, it is voodoo black magic. basically, if a song is playing on the radio or television and you do not know who it is by, just open shazam and it listens to the song for 12 seconds then it can identify it. i was sceptical but it works beautifully.

secondly, the remote control app is also very clever, you can use it to control your itunes music from the iphone. seamless, and without hesitation. truly cool.

and both free.

Agreed. Time to start getting airport expresses for every room in the house.

oh, and if you are working in finance, the bloomberg app is very slick also, and again free.

I'm really waiting for Gizmo to release a iPhone client, that would be truly great.

I just installed Locly, it's free and shows you the nearest pubs (and other stuff).

Doesn't work like that, you have to buy them or follow the helpful tip given in the iPhone 3G FAQ thread .

Yes, Palringo is free and supports both Jabber and Windows Live Messenger (plus a few other standards). I used it for the first time last night - and found the keyboard speed to be extremely lacking. It's extremely slow and entering/correcting my inputs made me so angry that I almost threw the phone against the wall.

Anyway, I hope they fix this soon.

As somebody who primarily uses OSS I resent paying for any applications, you could also call me tight I guess. Donating, fine, paying no.

Lockbox - free - stores passwords, it's pretty simple.

I've tried this and am surprised it got good reviews to be honest, I find it pretty pathetic for the reasons you mentioned. I don't really see the use of an IM client that doesn't run in the background either.

There's a new one up called "Mobile Chat" - purchased it - and hoping it's better than Palringo...
