Is it clustered together with the other English channels or is it elsewhere on the channel selection? For us it just went off, we had to switch off and switch on again and Channel 4 sputtered into life instead.

Is it just Cablecom, or other providers too? I have Bluwin TV, and would love channel4!

I am just weighing up whether it is worth a call to Cablecom customer dis-service but I don't think I have got the patience having read endless threads about how feckless they are.

Next stop Amazon for as many Balamory series as they stock...

No - Bluewin TV definitely does not have Channel 4 yet and it's nowhere to be found on this list. I'm hoping that they'll soon follow suit though and add it...

How disappointing.

I hope Swisscom add it soon too.

Aside from Big Brother, they generally put out some quality shows. Some of my favourites (I had to go through their site, they have done so many),

Bo Selecta
The Ali G show
Scrapheap Challenge
Black Books
Father Ted
How clean is your House?
The IT crowd
Peep Show
Trigger Happy TV
Unreported World
Vic Reeves Big Night Out
Wife Swap (Awful, but compulsive)

Ok, they're mostly comedies, they also produce numerous in depth documentaries, too many to list.

I'll always remember them as a young boy for showing the more racy films and borderline soft porn, handily identified with a little red triangle in the tv guide.
Then I suppose I will have to start watching some of those listed programmes. Maybe it's just that the names don't appeal to me, something like Wife Swap just sounds seedy.

Those are past hits, not having watched it for a couple of years, I'm not sure what's on now, but there's bound to be something worth watching.

Re: What is the big deal about Channel 4?

Wife swap produced some TV gold, I daren't google a clip at the office in case of what the search results turn up, but it made a minor celebrity out of a couple of the participants, for all the wrong reasons.

The Simpsons, Hollyoaks, All that morning sit-coms one after the other, Without a trace, ER, informative& shocking documentaries, colorful ties and socks of Jon Snow, etc... This channel can be seriously addictive if you have time to watch it all day...

Re: What is the big deal about Channel 4?

Most if not all the repeat/rerun shows mentioned aren't on Channel4 anymore for the most part...they've been shifted to E4 (Friends reruns and so on) and More4 (Without a Trace etc), for which you would need a satellite dish. The Simpsons is on every weekday though, and they have plenty of decent new programming. When we discovered the Channel4/More4/E4 group was unscrambled on satellite a few months ago, we found ourselves watching them a lot more than the BBC One to Four group. (Which may say something awful about our viewing tastes...but still.)

If anyone liked the No Going Back series on BBC Prime, there's a programme on tonight on Channel4 at 9pm CET called The Great Italian escape, which revisits the young Yorkshire couple who moved to rural Italy with their 3 year old son. (Spoiler: they're still there, and now have 4 sons!)

Re: What is the big deal about Channel 4?

I was really pleased to find CH4 on the TV guide yesterday. Funnily enough, I've still got BBC Prime (can't stand the tripe they show) on the 'normal' channels - those from the wall socket - but it's gone from the TV through the box thing.

Re: What is the big deal about Channel 4?

Doesn't seem to have got down here yet. BBC prime is still running on my Cablecom digital.

BBC prime is awful. With one exception

When my little one gets up at 6 a.m. it's the only channel with decent Kid's programs on it at that time. Still I just have to enlarge the DVD collection to compensate.

Re: What is the big deal about Channel 4?

I am also excited about the possibility of C4 arriving on Swiss TV channels. Does anyone know if Channel 5 will be arriving soon?

My husband and I were annoyed when we found that the only English non-news-channels on SwissCom would be BBC and ITV, as were generally only watched C4 and Five back in Blighty. Although one-year is rather fond on Cbeebies.

We had the heartbreaking task of telling a two year old that there would be no more Balamory in the morning.

BBC Prime was rubbish for the rest of the day but Balamory was top telly for our little one.
If you can, get a cheap digital satellite box from Migros and an 80cm dish.

Then you can get Cbeebies and CBBC for free. That's about 2x12 hours a day of kids programming. Not sure but I think ITV have a kids channel too.

Cyrus,
Here's a programme coming up on Sunday which may interest you based on your avitar....
"Bring Back...Star Wars" where the makers ambitiously try to reunite the main surviving members of the original 1977 film.

Anyone remember the largely fogotten Chance in a Million starring the then unknown Simon Callow and Brenda Blethyn?
Sorry to continue the list of C4 nostalgia but these two should be in the list Brass Eye and Drop the Dead Donkey.

they announced that they'll be joining Freesat by the end of the year. Will probably take another 6 months until it shows up on cable.

Re: What is the big deal about Channel 4?

I really enjoyed Crime and Punishment, the documentary about the history of the law in the UK starting from the time of the Saxons. Had to record it though since it comes on at 5am . Very strange time to put that on.
