Messenger Live can be used via the web too, you know.

Then it is likely it will work on the iPhone, via the web browser.

Ok, I also see that. my question was still why chat (AIM or MSN or ....) on a phone, even when at home, when a computer has a keyboard and would be a better tool for the job? or am I just getting to old?
Maybe you are hehe no i think you have a valid point aswell, but im always on instant messenger so when other members of my family are on the computer it would be handy to be able to just go on it on my iphone.

thanks holly

Re: iPhone in Switzerland

Why do people get so excited for the launch of a product which is still UNKNOWN? I mean, nobody used it, and the few who did it expressed for the most negative comments.

How can people get so manipulated by marketing communication?

Why buy something at the time of the first launch while waiting can mean have a better product (further releases, less bugs) and cheaper as well?

Do really people have so few things to do in their life to buy immediately an electronic gadget not even well known? I understand what curiosity is but all of this appears way exaggerated..

Sorry for having been tough in the above comments... no offense... I do probably have less things to do than those in the queue buying an iPhone now

There have been a good amount of positive reviews. There are a few draw backs but in my opinion, those draw backs just do not take away the fact that it is a revolutionary design and all US phone companies dread the release of the iPhone.

The phone designs from now on will be meassured by the look of the iPhone, no matter how well it will sell. As to the battery not being exchangable, I don't see the problem. I have had many cell phones in my life and I never had to get a new battery. The absolute only negative points for me (with out having used one) is the price tag and EDGE.

it's not unknown - several news papers have been able to review it.

Re: iPhone in Switzerland

David Pogue, the New York Times reviewer mentioned previously, had this to add to his review. I found both to be useful.

"Can the iPhone serve as a wireless modem for my laptop? No"

"Does the iPhone work with Bluetooth computers, printers, stereo headsets or keyboards? No. At the moment, it communicates only with hands-free devices like Bluetooth headsets (including Apple’s very tiny one, coming in July) and a car’s dashboard system."

ok now, this is getting worse and worse. If I can't use it as a modem for my computer, I definitely won't buy it.

So the only thing it's got over my Sony Ericsson is a nice UI and bling factor.

I've been using 3g phones for the past couple of years, and I've been happily browsing the net on them, OK, Youtube doesn't work, but I don't think I want to be downloading videos over gprs anyway! This phone looks like a real downgrade.

Re: iPhone in Switzerland

In my opinion they won't announce this on Monday but I think there is a possibilty for 3G to be available on the first gen iPhone in Europe. Europes mobile phone market is a lot more complicated than it is in the US. I also think European customers won't be as easy to please as US customers and they will definitely not get the phone if they have to commit to Swisscom or Orange for a total of 5 years like it is now over here. Do locked phones actually exist in Europe?

I can't believe all of my friends are getting their iPhone today and I can't, just because I am coming to Bern in 4 weeks.
