cant believe that apple will release a 3g version in switzerland and the like so soon after releasing the edge version elsewhere.
im sure that they COULD do it, but consumers who recently bought their edge phones would probably complain too much. same like they did when apple brought down the iphone price in the states recently, and ended up getting loads of criticism for lowering the price too soon... forcing them to give rebates to many of the recent customers.
i do think there is a chance that the edge version will be announced in switzerland this week (although that is of course pure speculation as i often like to point out), but would be astounded if it was a 3g version.
for that i predict that will be late this year or early next year, in a proper iphone version 2, which will no doubt have a cool gps system on it.
apple store in zurich has been mooted for some time. i wonder how that will make dataquest feel?

China Mobile have already said no deal to Steve Jobs regards 2/2.5G handset. US has very limited 3G coverage & they had to launch in their biggest market.
Failure to deliver a 3G handset this half-year in Europe will cripple ongoing sales. Consumers are fickle & there are plenty of other smartphone vendors that will snap up the user base.

If it don't have 3G, I'm not buying it.

I've got an HTC TYTN II which is pretty good - 3G, 3Mb camera, windows 6 (which is good inbetween crashes), built in GPS which works brilliantly with google maps. It's got a pull-out keyboard and tilt touchscreen, this is the best bit for me, I can type reasonably well on it, though I did get a stowaway keyboard too (for $40, not the price in the link!). I now use Word on the phone along with the keyboard in meetings for note-taking, it saves me having to cart my Mac along.
I'm currently in San Fran, I walked into the Apple store for a guided tour of the iphone - the guy spent a long time with me going through all the bits you don't see at first. I have to say the web browsing on it is excellent, much better than on mine. I asked about iphone news (also MBP release date) but of course apple guy wasn't telling. There is still a huge amount of interest in the iphone in the states, lots being sold in the time I was in the shop.
I'll buy a 3G iphone the day it arrives in CH. It's not got the feature list of my phone, but does have a whole load of other stuff going for it.

I hope Apple will give enough space to the Macs. The bigger Dataquest store is more iProduct oriented and I don't see the need for Apple to compete here if they think in long terms.

They often announce at 9am pacific time (it's now 8.16am PT)...
Anyway, the rumours about a media event at the end of the month are getting stronger, I think you're 2 weeks early |

And for the Windoze people you don't even have to wait. Already been released and I believe it has backwards compatibility...
You can even get it on your Mac if you run Bootcamp and Windoze off a second partition. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Screen_of_Death | Quote: | | | | | Unfortunately not an iPhone, bt heres something that Apple have just revealed for all Apple Fan Boys

Some interesting articles lately. The first is from google who say that they get 50 times more searches on the iphone than on any other mobile handset, and AT&T say 'average revenue per user for iPhone users was nearly double the average, because iPhone users took large data packages on top of their voice calls'.
The second is EE Times who back up what I've thought from the start - that 'iPhone represents a model for mobile operators to follow'. iphone ain't perfect, but it's changed the way users look at mobile internet devices, and the Barcelona conference is (apparently) full of suppliers offering similar user interfaces.
Still waiting too.....

Good article hear on El Reg regards unlocking an iPhone to upgrade to 1.1.3 from earlier versions using the ZiPhone Tool.
Comment Sam ? Seems you don't have to break the case & fiddle with the innards, but I'm no techie.
