Re: iPhone in Switzerland

Thanx ever so much - I'll get one of the new ones then (without an AT&T contract :-) ) when Apple releases them.

Do you mean getting one in the US without a contract? As dawiz pointed out, that won't be possible. They will make you sign everything there in the store, when purchasing the phone.

At least in the US there won't be any without a contract. You can bail out of the contract but you'd have to give the iPhone back.

In Italy they'll be sold without contract, possibly in France as well. Don't know if they'll sell contract-free ones in Switzerland.

Interesting http://www.appleinsider.com/articles..._optional.html

Makes me wonder if it's worth buying one in the UK to avoid extortionate monthly charges rom SwissCom. I'm still waiting to see how much they will be charging per month *hopes for under 26 discount plan*.

if O2 sells the iPhone without contract and you're willing to forfeit your warranty upon hacking the phone then yes, that might be an option.

ok, now the fun stops - if Swisscom blocks push-email on the iPhone, they can kiss my 100 bucks per month goodbye.

Re: iPhone in Switzerland

This doesn't make much sense to me. What do they have to gain by steering customers towards the blackberry?

By this, do you mean jailbreaking, then yes. Jailbreaking has become a very simple task and I'm sure it won't be long before it becomes simple again for the 3G. And you can always reset the phone if it goes wrong.

But, I'm not getting dragged into this thread.

I don't really get it either - there are all kinds of other DirectPush-capable devices sold and nobody has ever been talking about blocking the service.

I would think that Swisscom is afraid that it'll lose some of its Blackberry (business-) customers to the iPhone. The Blackberry services are highly profitable for Swisscom.

I'm not saying it doesn't work - yes, it's very easy and quick (I had an jail-broken iPhone myself) - but you lose your phone's warranty when you do it.

yes i noticed that too but it is only speculation. i cannot believe swisscom would actually do that. apple would not let them sell a basically paralysed iphone. they simply wouldnt.

Not true. If you use pwnage to unlock your iphone, you can restore to initial factory settings, therefore no loss of warranty.

Re: iPhone in Switzerland

Swisscom price details are on their website.

At first glance this is not very special. Max data limit of 1gb, does not include any phone minutes...? Time for a bit more of an in-depth read, methinks.

Crosspost, sorry ric. Attached are two screenshots of the news.

Says the most expensive subscription plan is 55 Fr., incl. 1gb data volume and phone calls cost 50 Rp. per hour. iPhones go for 99 and 199 Fr. with this plan.

Unfortunately, those who already have a Swisscom subscription won't be able to buy an iPhone with these plans, they're only for new customers. For all the others, the phone will be sold starting at 519 Fr. without a subscription (for the 8gb version)

The smallest subscription package starts at 25 Fr. per month and includes 100mb traffic, phone calls cost 70 rp per hour, phones cost 249 and 349
