I concur :-)

Assuming the iphone is based on OS X and knowing that it has motion sensors built in, then it will probably have the same API as the recent laptops in which case I predict the lightsaber sounds will be one of the first 3rd party efforts that comes out for the iphone...

Of course it'll have to be a safari based app with ajax so it'll be rubbish.

I'd sooner rip my eyes out than watch youtube videos whilst sitting on a train. If God wanted us to watch videos on small screens like those found on ipods and iphones, he'd have made our living rooms much longer.

Re: iPhone in Switzerland

I know a similar link has already been posted but I figured it would good to provide the link to the original and official statement from Apple, Inc.

It also features a comparison with all the latest smart phones available, which makes the iPhone look pretty good!

A rather interesting read. Can't wait to get my hands on the iPhone! Here's the link:

Naturally I'd already considered that. I even gained some sponsorship by having "Benetton" tattooed to the back of my eye sockets.

Re: iPhone in Switzerland

Hi,

it amazes me how many replies this thread has for a phone which will not even be available in Switzerland for a long time and one which offers less than phone which is already on the market from other manufacturers. It's main selling point for the fan boys is that it come from Apple rather than Nokia, Motorola, Sony-Ericcson or HTC.

Some how I see the reduction in this hype cycle once the phone is released. After many conversations it becomes increasing obvious that Americans do not understand how consumers in the rest of world use phones.

Maybe I will be proved wrong and it will be successful but I doubt the v1 will be outside the fan boys and girls....at bit like the Apple Tv that no one wants.

Have fun

Martin

actually I think his last post was fine. Apple TV is DRM-ed to death. The iPhone (for us) is still a long way off.

I'd still have a v1 iPhone before ANY Motorola phone though

Re: iPhone in Switzerland

Don't know if you've all seen this already, but I'm totally sold (real apple-addict). So want to own an iphone!!! Crossing my fingers that my sister could get one for me when it comes out next week. She does work within walking distance to the Apple store on Fifth Avenue... Hopefully she could stand queueing for her little sister...

http://www.apple.com/iphone/usingiph...our_large.html

And yes, I can change the SIM card on my blackberry whenever I'm home in the states or here in Frankfurt. I also get roaming so sometimes I don't even bother. More expensive, of course, but... Hopefully it's not all monopolized bu AT&T (which now owns Cingular, by the way).

Re: iPhone in Switzerland

Thanks...not a troll..and not anti Mac...just anti hype...been stung by reality too many times...and so I try to be objective....for a discussion it is good to have different opinions otherwise it is a monologue...don't know about being special.

By the way you can now get the LG Prada phone in Phone Warehouse in Switzerland. I played with it in the UK. Has anyone else tried it out ?...just curious what people think. I thought the touch screen really did not work very well....anyone else have a different reaction and this phone is remarkablely similar to the iphone.

This phone is available now in Switzerland

Re: iPhone in Switzerland

Has anyone else noticed that Apple appear to be avoiding showing the camera feature? When it wasn't in the Steve Jobs presentation in January, it was no surprise as obviously some things would not be finished by then. However, they also don't demonstrate it in the new guided tour that brownie linked to. It looks like this could be the least developed and most buggy of the features.

Re: iPhone in Switzerland

The Wall St Journal have had one on test for two weeks, heres the review which is pretty favourable.

Also back to SIM cards & not being able to port ...

Quote:
But the iPhone has a major drawback: the cellphone network it uses. It only works with AT&T (formerly Cingular), won't come in models that use Verizon or Sprint and can't use SIM cards that would allow it to run on T-Mobile's network. So, the phone can be a poor choice unless you are in areas where AT&T's coverage is good. It does work overseas, but only via an AT&T roaming plan.
In addition, even when you have great AT&T coverage, the iPhone can't run on AT&T's fastest cellular data network. Instead, it uses a pokey network called EDGE, which is far slower than the fastest networks from Verizon or Sprint that power many other smart phones. And the initial iPhone model cannot be upgraded to use the faster networks.
so locked down CDMA handsets .... interesting to see what Apple do when they release the GSM handsets in Yurrup ....
