Setting up router with Swisscom ADSL modem

Hi, I've seem others having similar problems to me, but not all the answers I need. Perhaps some of you would be kind enough to help.

I have the simple 1-port ADSL modem from Swisscom (SMCA1T-A), because in the UK I had cable internet and I have brought the Linksys WLAN router with me. I thought it would be a simple job to connect the Linksys to the ADSL modem, but no such luck

A step by step guide by someone who's done it to setting my modem and router up would be much appreciated. I think I have to set the modem to bridging mode, turn it's DHCP off?, then set my router to connect via PPPoE using the login and password lifted from the modem. Is this all?

Cheers.

If you can't find the answers on the following link:

http://www.swisscom.ch/res/internet/...tion/index.htm

then call the swisscom help line (yes, they do have support in English), the call is free and operates 24/7.

Careful,
The initial call is free, but when they send you to tech support, be prepared to pay per minute and that includes hold the line time as well.

As the admin would soon point out, this isn't really a "Swiss related" topic since it does happen in standard IT practices so you may find some answers through google that better suit.
One thing you may need is a straight pin-to-pin cable.

The link I've included clearly states the "Free Number" for admin and support (i.e. tech) which I've personally used on several occasions concerning Internet and Bluewin TV problems. The tech support for TV was/has been very long and complicated at times but I've never been billed a per minute fee so I'm not sure where you're getting your information from. Could you provide a link that states Swisscom charges a per minute fee..?

Past experience, but maybe this has changed with Swisscom from this web site info clearly stating 100% free. http://www.swisscom.ch/res/kundencen...mern/index.htm

Maybe this was from my mobile phone since I pay by the minute (even for the 0800 numbers)

Re: Setting up router with Swisscom ADSL modem

Thanks both - it was Mr mtc who posted, and after spending a merry half hour on the phone to Swisscom it's all sorted. I don't understand the ins and outs, but am happy as I have my laptop back again I think it involved changing the settings in both the modem and the router - he was impressed that swisscom stayed on the phone while he messed around with it, in a way that Virgin in the UK wouldn't have done.

No idea whether it was free or not to call - he went via the 0800 number.

Thanks again,

Maud
