Mobile phone service and electrical adaptors

Hi guys,

I´m getting to the point where I have done all I need to in order to settle in to Lausanne except for getting an apartment and all that goes along with that, and the apartment search is ongoing right now, as I've emailed about 7 different places that appeared in my homegate.ch automated searches over the last few days.

I think the last thing I can do right now that don't require an apartment (internet requires it, insurance requires it etc) is get a cellphone service provider. Where do you go for this? Preferably somewhere where I can expect someone to speak English, because although I´m getting into ordering food and asking about various things in French, with anything requiring a contract and conditions, I'd prefer to fully understand what I'm doing, which at this point means it has to be done in English.

Also, I came over here with only one NZ - European adapter plug for my cellphone, laptop, MP3 player etc, expecting that there'd be lots of time at the airport to get more, or that I'd find some to buy easily. There was predictably NO time at the airport, and I have yet to find a single electronics store. The Migros and Coops I have visited so far haven't had any adapters. Does anyone have any advice where I can go to find them?

Cheers all.

Re: Cellphone service, adapters for foreign electronics questions...

Interdiscount or Fust are quite resonable, I personally wouldent reccommend mobile zone. Another thing worth considering would be prepay... as i found the contracts here were quite a bit more expensive than the UK, germany ect. Should be able to get a good phone in one of them shops for around 100.- ... I usually stick to a low budget as my phones usually end up getting dropped, wet, sat on, burnt ect lol..... Oh and if you do decide to go for a contract orange is pretty good for service

pick up a pay-as-you-go SIM and you're off I have orangeclick. You can order it over the internet in English too.

Interdiscount for 39 francs have the mother-of-all adaptors.

Re: Mobile phone service and electrical adaptors

I have had my swissc*m contract for about 6 years now. I have been toying with the idea of changing to a pay as u go. Do any of the cell companies here offer number portability?? As it would be useful to keep my current cell number???

Re: Mobile phone service and electrical adaptors

Thanks to all. My mission for the weekend is to get my phone working here, so I might well try to find a prepay card I can order online.

Gradually getting settled in here...now the main thing I need is an apartment!

Checkout Orangeclick.ch great for level users...

PS 'low level user' is not meant as a social comment.

PPS Orangeclick is for you phone, it won't help in your search for an apartment.
