| | | (Zurich) Where to buy a large Projector Screen
Hi all,
I am sure a number of you are using projectors in your homes, and i really need some advice on what to go with and where to buy it.
In my flat I am basically needing a freestanding (not allowed to drill into the roof) screen. I can drill into the wall if necessary, but maybe one that stays fixed on a stand or similar would be better?
It doesn't really need to be wider than 3m or higher than 2.5, as the max size i'd project at would be 3m by 2.33m.
Has anyone got experience of a company who do these things or any advice?
Thanks in advance,
Brett

I've just searched Digitec for "Leinwand" and man, these beasts can be expensive! |

You should check out the da-lite screens, which conveniently are sold in MediaMarkt. They are free standing and best of all roll up when you're not using them which is pretty handy and flexible. I got one a few years back and have been really pleased with it. They're surprisingly solid too and it's easy to roll them out to whatever height of screen you need. http://www.dalite.com/products/produ...?cID=19&pID=92 |

Loads of places. I have a 'fixed' screen which I made using Projector cloth I bought from 'design & ton' (opposite Media Markt in Spreitenbach).
Most 'roll-up' versions can be wall mounted. best option if you don't want it out all the time.

I've seen one that hooked into the standard curtain railings, that seems a pretty nifty solution.

The issue I have is that it wouldn't be by a wall, but kind of in the middle of a room (to function as a room divider also), so would be tough to affix to anything. I don't mind if it is permanent, as it would be a hassle to set it up every time i wanted to use it.

You might want to have a look at these guys. They are based in Germany. The screen is designed for HDTV from a beamer. http://www.screen-tech.de/HDV-Screen...ema-Screen.htm
Screens go up to 120" (~ 300cm) x 80" (~ 200cm). Click on the order button to see the standard sizes and prices.
They have standard sizes in the 16/9 format (I assume that is what you want).
You can get it as a film and you decide how to fix it to the wall or you can get a frame from them. There are also other ways of keeping it rigid (we can go into more detail if this is an idea that fits).

They go from floor to ceiling and can be adjusted to your ceiling height, fine adjustment is via the threaded foot and has a sping inside to enble it to be 'jammed' in place.
I then stapled the screen cloth to a length of wood and hung this on the poles.
the same idea could be used to hand from curtain rods and/or adapt a pull-down or motorised screen.
Mind you I'm not sure how good an idea it is to mount a screen in front of a window. Unless you add some 'black-out' cloth behind it (mind you the cloth is probably thick enough to stop light coming through unless you have a 'back-projection' cloth :-).

Very large free standing screens are rare and tend to look unsightly.
My advice is that if you want a room divider then buy a room divider.
If you want to use a projector, it also looks great just on a white wall you know.
Alternatively, you can get frames which are the screen equivalents of a picture drawing frame... these are called rahmleinwand i believe. But as i say, they are for hanging on a wall.
I toyed with getting one of these but to be honest even though i am quite picky about picture quality im very happy with my projected image onto a white wall.

Use these square poles that go between the floor and ceiling (2 of them) then hang a screen from these. Or build a room divider.

Hi,
I bought them in Migros DIY centre at Brunau park. I can try and take some photo's for you.
They are basically black (although might be avail in white as well, can't remember), square, at one end is a foot with a thread for fine adjustment, the other end is removable section and there are holes in the pole where you can put a metal pin through to adjust the height.
I am not using mine at the moment, but hte horder in me want's to hang onto them just in case.....

Hi,
No idea of what they are called. The ONLY place I have seen these is in Migros DO-IT-All (or wahtever it's called). Not been to one of these places for a long time though or looked for these. The had various brackets and things to attach to them.
Actually just thought, Ikea had something simular but YELLOW. I have on in the garage for my bikes.

Most of the tripod screens that we buy are maximum 2x2m. Professional version for Fr. 480.00 plus shipping.
You need to be a registered company to buy from these people but if you are interested, send me an email and I can get it shipped to your door.
