TV/Internet in Berne

Hello,

having scanned many threads I haven't got my questions answered. I have cablecom tv (recorder contract up to march 2009) and internet (5k contract till June 2009). I don't need fixed line (having sunrise zero till February 2009). Till now I haven't figured out if there are any local providers in Berne. Does any have an idea? www.swisscable.ch shows only cablecom. I'll be 26 in 3rd trimester of 2009 so if there will be no other option I'm thinking of going for swisscom tv and internet. However it is not completely clear what happens when I'm 26 (are prices immediately adjusted or by the end of contract, I've made online request a 10 days ago but no answer yet) and as far as I understand to get internet access I need to pay 25 chf for phone line and I cannot get tv without internet Any ideas?

if you are going for Swisscom then you are right, to get internet you need to pay for the phone line, and to get Bluwin you need the net. So basically you need the whole package. We got a phone to connect to the fixed line, never call out fromit, but the family can always call the house.

If you search a little more, you will find lots of info on the forum about internet providers etc.

Swisscom's headquaters is in Bern, does that qualify them as a "local provider"?

PS- In English, is it "Bern" or "Berne"? I've been living here for years and I still can't sort that out...

Re: TV/Internet in Berne

We had recently moved into a new place and looked at the options for Phone/TV/Internet. Here is waht I understood: You will need to pay for line either to Swisscom (for phone line) or cablecom (for cable connection). So it is better to have one provider if you want to save money. 1. With Cablecom you can have only internet option (basic cable TV is included in connection fee, does not include digital box / recorder or phone). 2. With Swisscom you get phone included in connection fee. Internet you can also have from Tele2, Orange, Sunrise etc once you have a fixed line from Swisscom. I have no idea about Swisscom TV service. 3. Go wireless for internet if you are a moderate user (

Re: TV/Internet in Berne

thanks for replies. Concerning Bern or Berne, just quoting British embassy site : "The British Embassy in Berne is Britain's official representation in Switzerland and Liechtenstein"

...but then I occasionally read in english-speaking newspapers (or in this guys case, the UK embassy!) spelling it "Berne"...so I'm always confused ..but then I still can't figure out how to spell/pronounce Freiburg/Fribourg either...ug
