How to call cheaply to asia ( esp nepal)

Hi EFers,
Have any of you had the experiece of being bled dry by these supposedly "budget" mobile companies when it comes to making international calls to "smaller" destinations ? like the tariff could be anything like 3-4 francs a minute caling Nepal.
I have found Yallo seems to give an OK deal, at 55rp a minute but still too expensive for calling your family back home which can easily go over 30 minutes per call.
Tried some so called calling cards ( something called bomba or similar) and found them absolutely useless. You get charged while they are trying to connect to the other end at it takes an eternity and then you hear the phone on the other side ringing and no one picks up...funny because it turned out the phones o the other side didnt actually ring !

Anyone have some helpful suggestions ?

I am not sure of Nepal, but I do call home in India on cell phones through justvoip. It costs 0.035 euro per minute. In addition you can also make landline calls in europe free.

Re: How to call cheaply to asia ( esp nepal)

Try Rebtel.com

www.rebtel.com

click on the rates tab at the top of the page. Select Switzerland and Nepal on this page to get the price details. You also have to select the reference currency.

To landlines in Nepal will be CHF 0.265 and mobile phones will be CHF 0.288

Read the detail on how Rebtel works on the main page but you can call from either a land line or a mobile phone (assuming that you have the minutes available for a local call).

Very important to keep in touch with family !

Good luck.

Re: How to call cheaply to asia ( esp nepal)

Its a voip service provided by www.justvoip.com.
Create an account, refill for whatever amount u like, I refill by 10 euros monthly. You can refill by either credit card or by taking the vouchers from local reseller. You will need to download their application and you are all set to make calls.

As for the credit card payments, its safe atleast thats what i have seen. I am using it for almost a year now.

Re: How to call cheaply to asia ( esp nepal)

Here is another blog discussing the same- Vonage/Skype the problem is that I thik that you have to have a US number, then you just take the box anywhere, you could try with a virtual number Swiss number. However you may find that there is an Asian company like 'just dial' where you can buy minutes and that may be the cheapest way to go.

Re: How to call cheaply to asia ( esp nepal)

If you use VoipBuster, you can both call from your computer, but at the same time, they also offer a dial-in number in Switzerland. If you call the number, you can call using your account to any destination that VoipBuster offers. You only need to pay (excluding the cost of the voip call) is the cost of the call here in Switzerland.

Here are the VoipBuster rates.

Nepal (Landline) 0.223 CHF per minute
Nepal (Mobile) 0.238 CHF per minute

You can download VoipBuster from voipbuster.com.

@ Budgettarife.ch

Calls to Nepal landlines are charged at 25rp for the first minute and 10rp for each subsequent minute and calls to mobile numbers are at 30rp for the first minute and 10rp for each subsequent minute.

No signing up required, just dial the 0900 number listed, followed by (Country Code)(Area Code)(Number) and press #

Re: How to call cheaply to asia ( esp nepal)

I'm a bit late to the game, but I would also add a vote for rebtel.com as mentioned earlier. I find them excellent as they set up a local number for you to call, meaning you can make international calls from your mobile using your inclusive minutes. Only been using them for 6 months or so, but very happy so far. And no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way...

Re: How to call cheaply to asia ( esp nepal)

I use www.jajah.com and www.nonoh.net to call international from landlines, you create an account then charge it up and tell it the number you are at and the number you want to call then it calls them both and connects you.

Also useful for making calls in an office where you can't make international calls as it's an incoming call.

jajah has better features eg assign a local swiss number to your Nepal number, but nonoh is more flexible
