Forgive me if this is something of a stupid question... but I take it that if you have a UK mobile on the orange networkand then you use it on the Swiss orange network that calls are still charged at roaming prices as though t was any other international network? Tried googling some info but couldn't find much...

Yes. They tell you at every turn that Orange UK is totally separate from Orange Switzerland... and that Orange Switzerland retail shops are very distant from Orange.ch too

My UK Orange phone is treated as an international phone over here, and my Swiss Orange iphone racks up international charges in the UK faster than UK MPs fill in expense claims.

Ahh that's what I thought. Ahh well, maybe one day the rip-off pricing will end... but so far I am seriously put out by the stingy Swiss pricing systems on their mobile phone tarrifs. 100 minutes free a month is considered normal and "good" here... for £25 in the UK I got 1200 mins, 1000 texts and unlimited internet!
