SKY + receiver - which type to bring over from and existing Sky set up??

Hello - very quick question - my in-laws have currently got a Sky + box in the UK at the moment.

We intend to bring an additional box out with us using this subscription....

Could anyone confirm which version should be selected (i.e. Sky Multiroom, Additional Sky + box, HD + Box....)

We would like to order the right one, so that we simply have tp get a dish sorted when we are over there.

Appreciate the reply, and apologises if this is a repeat question (I did search the threads!!)

Sorry folks, seems like I might have missed out on a thread....seems like Mulitroom is a no-go option, but the normal Sky+ Receiver would be the better option.

Thoughts?

It depends on what you want.

If you want HD and have an HD telly and are willing to pay the tenner extra - get an HD box. You also get the benefit that the hard drive is bigger (unless they've upgraded this recently).

On the other hand, hard drives are swappable if you're slightly technically minded and you may be disappointed with the actual amount of HD material available.

Sky+ (and also SkyHD) gives you PVR capability, which is worth its weight in gold, in my opinion.

If the above isn't important to you, go with an ordinary box.

As you've already found, Sky Multiroom is not an option. Because you can't connect the two boxes to a UK phoneline, full price subs for each box is the only way. However, I have two boxes but only one subscription. I just watch free-to-air channels (without PVR capability) on he 2nd box.

Re: SKY + receiver - which type to bring over from and existing Sky set up??

Much appreciated - my in-laws have got the whole lot (£90+ per month they are paying currently!), so we just need to get a box, and get a dish set-up.

I heard about the multi-room thing, but having read the prev. threads, will avoid like the plague.

To be honest, I don't record al lot of stuff anymore, as we view the majority of our shows via different methods (ahem...). So my video (DVD Recorder thingy) is more suited for that, and we get to watch content quicker than Sky can get it!

May have to do with the Cable offering until we have established ourselves, bus as long as we have broadband, then I will be quite content for the time being.

Many thanks for confirming and replying.

Good cheer!

You may elect to look at a Dreambox DM800 which connects to the cable TV socket and gets "quite a lot". This would include Premier League footy

Of course you could legitimately subscribe too

There is only one team I want to watch, so I have a method of doing that

Thansk for the tip - gives me quite a few options to consider.

Good cheer!

Re: SKY + receiver - which type to bring over from and existing Sky set up??

Interested by your Dreambox comment. I've moved into a place with a communal satellite (they don't allow dishes on the terrace!) - and have only German channels (about 80 of them!). I have a dreambox from Middle East where I was. Could this give me access to a lot more channels through my cable socket? Thanks for any advice...
