Are you sure about this? I've had no speed throttling and download about 80GB per month.
Then you've been lucky. Every month when we hit 10GB, we get an email saying we've exceeded our limit and our internet becomes painstakingly slow...ie, you don't want to even check your email slow. Hate it, we've taken to not using our video on skype calls, but what a shame when we are so far from loved ones!

Maybe you can download our favourite shows for us?

Which package? May be worth your while to call Swisscom and see if there's something more appropriate for you. Their phone/internet/TV bundles offer unlimited downloads, as far as I'm aware.

Which package do you have? I have the 20meg vivo package and have had no problems I think that cablecom has implemented fibre optic in Neuchatel though so you might want to look to that.

Just PM me if you want any, 'non copyrighted of course', shows downloaded.

We are on the rocket stick for 60 CH a month. We don't have phone or tv, and will not renew our contract with swisscom when the time comes. Maybe I should talk to them though. Which package do you have that is giving you truly unlimited high speed internet?

You use a dongle? That makes sense then.

Get a fixed line and you will be fine.

I think our contract requires three months written notice to cancel, or you have to pay for the entire following year. This was one of our first encounters with the swiss love for rules and structure. We are watching the calendar carefully...

Infinity.

CHF 69 per month. But you do need a fixed phone line as well, which costs CHF 25.25 extra -- although with Infinity you get unlimited free phone calls within Switzerland, if this is of use to you.

As porsch said, a dongle will seriously limit your surfing fun.

In terms of mobile contracts the UK is worse IMO. I had 9 months left on my phone contract when I came here and had to keep paying until it was finished.

Of course, the contract policy holder must personally submit evidence of both for the cancellation to be valid.

I sometimes download close to a terabyte per month and have never had an issue with Cablecom. Their network is state of the art, and the speeds and download limits are stupendous as a result. Unless you download terabytes a month you will likely never hear a peep from them.

Re: Dowload limits - Swisscom/Cablecom

No issue with Cablecom here... I have an online backup service, so I'm hammering the uplink side regularly.

Re: Dowload limits - Swisscom/Cablecom

I've had rock solid experience with cablecom for nearly 2 years!
I have the 2.5MB/s package with phone, no cable tv. Sometimes d/l speeds approach 3MBs but routinely sit around 2.5MBs, never below 2MBs

Recently Swisscom terminated a fiber connection in the basement, which I am curious about. I have a few times sat on the freezer and stared at the box with the lovely yellow laser warning sticker *BUT* the Swisscom site is so awful for telling me what package is available to me that I have nearly given up on them before even trying!

Could someone point me to Swisscom fiber offerings or, gladly better yet please nicely asking here, compare the Swisscom offering to Cablecom offering? I am looking for internet and phone, no 'çable tv' (Choo-choo trainwreck of a sentence)

All I can find is this 'package' http://www.swisscom.ch/res/kombi-ang...m?langugeId=en and at CHF100/m for 1MB/0.1MB I'm going to shurg and say meh. Nearly close to saying WTF. Currently I have the cablecom offering 'Basic Duo' at CHF55/m, giving 2.5MB/.25MB

CK

Re: Dowload limits - Swisscom/Cablecom

I've got Cablecom in a furnished apartment, 30 Mbps. I get 33, solid. Having issues with Skype dropouts but perhaps not them. Not sure. Highly recommend. Beats the 8 max I got with Swisscom and for way less money.

Re: Dowload limits - Swisscom/Cablecom

I have Swisscom Infinity, download a ton and use Skype a lot. No issues, not even a warning.

BTW, if you have a Swisscom mobile you can ditch the landline and get a 10CHF discount off of the 69/month Infinity charge

Yes have Swisscom mobile, but the reason we have the landline is for the internet.
Had tried dongle from Swisscom and Orange, but the connection where we are was painfully slow

So you're a perfect candidate for the no-fixed-line, CHF 10 discount offer, then. You'd have a fixed line providing high-speed internet access, but you wouldn't have to pay a fee for the fixed line and you couldn't use it to make phone calls. Win.
