[Dreambox] Technical - setup, plugins, etc

Sky EPG on a Dreambox

I am using a Dreambox with my Sky Viewing Card and am very happy with all the features. The only thing missing is (was) a good EPG. Sky's EPG doesn't follow standards, so if you use anything other than a Digibox you only get the now and next EPG Information.

I knew there were plug-ins and hacks around, but none of them are user friendly to say the least and so I had never bothered. Last night my wife decided to go out, so I gave it a shot

The ingredients used are:
Dreambox 7020
Gemini 3.40 Image
MV 3.5.3 EPG Plugin
MPlug

I assume those interested are familiar with installing an image in their Dreambox and skip that part (If you are not, you have many worries ahead of you before thinking of an EPG anyway).

I also assume you are familiar with Unix at least at the level needed to manage a Dreambox.

1. Download the latest version of the MV plugin through Gemini's Blue Panel
2. Start the MV Plugin, press Menu, select Input Config
2a. Make sure AutoDirs is not selected.
2b. Choose and remember the Storage Directory
3. Download Mplug 0.7.4 or newer
4. Unzip Mplug
5. Copy Mplug to /var/bin and change it's permissions to 755 (chmod 755 /var/bin/Mplug)
6. Copy inputs.txt to /var/tuxbox/config/mv
7. Copy ChanRad.in to /var/tuxbox/config/mv
8. Create a directory called mplug inside the aforementioned Storage Directory
9. Telnet to your Dreambox and issue: /var/bin/Mplug /my/storage/dir/mplug 0 /var/tuxbox/config/mv
(This can take a while as it is now downloading the latest program information from RadioTimes)
10. Start MV, press Menu, select Input Config and choose "Mplug_MV350_dat" as an input method.
11. Start MV on your Dreambox, press Menu and select Alias Manager
12. Map your channels to the Downloaded EPG channels (this is a pain in the ..., but you need to do so only once)

Enjoy

There are detailed infos on how to edit the single files in a readme file enclosed with Mplug.

After step 9 and before running MV in step 10, you may want to edit /my/storage/dir/mplug/mplug.dat and remove the "mplug.rad." string before the channel names. This will make the Alias mapping much easier.

Aliasing creates a file called map.txt inside /var/tuxbox/config/mv
You could edit this file manually rather than mapping through the remote control.

Step 9 needs to be repeated weekly. Alternatively you can set up a cron job to automate this.

Hope this helps the geeks among us
I know this is not for the faint of heart, but a Dreambox rarely is.

Alex

alex - I've given you your own thread. I think us Dreamers deserve it.

www.embedded-uptime-project.com might be a nice "toy" for you.

Please do not do the following in this thread:
  • post keys or links to keys
  • do not link to anything outside the realm of the GPL nature of the project (Gemini is borderline btw as it violates the GPL licencing of enigma )
  • do not ask how to crack pay channels
For those not in the know:

by the way, alex, you can run a script with your remote - but you know that right? Blue button then Scripts IIRC....

Re: [Dreambox] Technical - setup, plugins, etc

bump!

I'm thinking of implementing an EPG on my Dreambox this weekend, and I just wondered which plugin people were currently favouring.

Really looking for a decent FTA/FTV EPG specifically. Should I follow the guide on this thread? or has anyone since discovered a better plugin?

Cheers.

Re: [Dreambox] Technical - setup, plugins, etc

some plugins are included in images - like pli which has some epg stuff built in.

www.i-have-a-dreambox.com www.satellites.co.uk are worth a plough for information.

Re: [Dreambox] Technical - setup, plugins, etc

I'm assuming its the cable version.

I did a quick search and it seems like there are some people doing some things... erm.... with Cablecom.

Everyone I've spoken to in Switzerland seems to have gone the satellite route.

Of course all was fine + dandy in the UK for 2 years, I'll do a more careful search tomorrow. What's a swiss equivalent of maplin?

I'd be interested to know how you get on - and whether its worth the hassle.

I did hear that one of the German satellite packages might be disappearing this year, so its always good to have alternatives in mind.

Re: [Dreambox] Technical - setup, plugins, etc

Hi All

I just bought a DM600C and have run into a problem.

The image I am using is Gemini v4.2 with Camd v3.897 emu, is this a good combo? I assume my keys are up to date as it is the satankeybundle dated 01/02/2008.

I don't have an internet connection in my apartment, so this is what I did:

1. Setup my network connection between PC and Dreambox using a crossover cable. Tested by opening the Dreambox web interface by entering its IP address into a browser URL, so this looks ok.

2. Flashed the Gemini image using DreamUp via a null modem cable. Again, this was straightforward.

3. FTP'd the cams across (which were in .tar.gz format) using Dreambox Control Center and did a manual install via the blue panel. This also looks good as I can switch between the cams.

4. Unzipped and FTP'd across the camd3.config, camd3.users, camd3.keys and camd3.servers files from the satankeybundle to the /var/keys directory and rebooted.

The problem is that only channel that clears remains SFInfo (plus a few other static ones).

Can anyone see where I'm going wrong? Is Gemini + Camd3 a good combination, or should I be using another? There are lots of keys in the satankeybundle which seem to be satellite channel specific, should I change my key file so that it contians only the Cablecom and Teleview keys?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated as my German is still pretty non-existent and it takes forever translating info from German forums.

You should know that watching without paying is illegal. However satkeys won't help you much. Getting a subscription card is the best thing to do. As for the cam - you'll need one even with a subscription card - try cccam or gbox if you could find it.

Depends what you are after. Conrad, Distrelic etc.. might be work you are looking for.

Re: [Dreambox] Technical - setup, plugins, etc

Now have my Dreamox 7020-S (dual tuners) with 250Gb hard drive. I am a Dreambox 'Virgin' so have a lot to learn. Currently only connected to 28.2 but hope to add 13 & 19 this weekend if I can get the cabling done etc..

Interested in getting the SKY EPG working as currently the lack of EPG is driving me crazy.

Will take a closer look at the post and see if this is within my realms of know-how. Just don't want to upset the config I have working now.

No I don't think so.

It's a different plugin from what I can see. But hey I am new to this (dreambox), so maybe I'm wrong.

looks like something to fill a gap for the 7025 you have.
I know this did not work on DM500 for those looking at an option for that....

MViewMplug Version 0.71 is set for GMT +1

This may be useful for people over this way.

I am looking for a solution for the 7025, so this might be the one for me.

I need to find out a bit more about what I am doing before I start playing. I received the box all setup and working so don't want to break it as I don't know the full config/setup yet.
