I am living in St. Gallen and i was wondering what is the best ISP that i can afford here.

I need it mostly for Skype and surfing. Means i don't do the heavy downloads and such.

How about the mobile internet? A few days ago I wanted to buy this netbook
====HP 2140 Mini-Note, 10" + Orange Internet Everywhere 24 M.====but i am not sure about the bills. How they charge you actually?
Or maybe it is a cash & carry (without any extra fees) ?

In my area, near Luzern, we have the choice of landline-based ADSL and Cable TV. I use Cablecom for my business, I have (supposedly) a very fast connection and internet telephone. Cablecom costs some CHF 100.- per month. I do not have a Swisscom connection any more, I rarely use the phone.

If you have a normal Swisscom connection, this will cost CHF 25.- or so just for the phone line. The ADSL connection (which uses the same physical wires as the phone) costs about CHF 50.- more.

I think Sunrise currently has a deal where you get the landline, adsl, and a cell phone.

My suggestion would be to get the cheapest one you can find. Whatever speed the vendor will promise will never be met anyway.

We had horrible experiences with Cablecom in St. Gallen. We switched to Swisscom when we moved to Meilen and everything has been running smoothly so far. The customer service with Swisscom is a million times better than it was with Cablecom in St. Gallen. If you don't speak German then I would recommend Swisscom too because everything is in English and you can contact customer service in English too. You can also buy a stick (Unlimited USB Modem) that gives you unlimited internet where ever you go. It costs around 150 CHF for the stick and is max 7 CHF for 24 hours of usage. We have taken the stick with us to the mountains and have had no problem recieving internet coverage.

From your suggestions it is easy to conclude that it is best to use Mobile internet (orange or swisscom).

I am a little bit concern because they offer only 24 months subscriptions.
Do you know an operator that offers laptop and 12 months subscription for a good price?

I went home for a while and returned for only 2 months.
I don't speak French, and don't know CH that well.
But I am very interested in the USB stick internet receiver. Can you please tell me more about this?
I guess it is a wireless receiver which you can hook up to the internet wherever you are, and it only costs you 150 CHF for the receiver plus about 7 CHF per day when using.
Is there any less expensive wireless internet hook ups ?

We live near Baden. Until now we had a Cablecom connection and, with one or two small exceptions it worked fine. We changed to Swisscom to their inclusive phone and internet package and it has been a disaster. The connection cuts out frequently, they are unable to give you a precise time when an engineer calls (they narrow it down to am/pm on a specific date) and just yesterday the engineer didn't actually bother turning up... The complaint letter is on my desk and I am regretting having switched over.

can you just subscript to this isp for 2 months ?
or it is a fixed 24 months contract ?
