Any equivalents of Hulu or streaming Netflix?

Hulu and streaming Netflix are blocked here obviously. But any equivalent? Maybe from Germany?

Re: Any equivalents of Hulu or streaming Netflix?

I tried that vpn and Hulu already have it blocked.

I can't remember if it was from someone on here, or a tech friend in the UK but I've started to use 'vuze' over the past few days and it's great.

I too was getting frustrated with no sky box and no access to my old US shows. So far it's been great. I love Modern Family and Californication.

My only tip would be to only download one show at a time - stops your computer crashing.

I'll start a show downloading, leave it for 5 minutes, then it's ready to play. No ad breaks and great HD quality.

Good luck.

Re: Any equivalents of Hulu or streaming Netflix?

I was able to easily use streaming Netflix by downloading a simple program called Hotspot Shield. Fortunately I have a US credit card and address, so I was easily able to sign up for a Netflix account. But it worked flawlessly and I have been watching Netflix movies that last several days. Netflix has a 2 week trial period, so its risk free to try it out. The Hotspot Shield program is small and has no spyware/adware or anything like that.

Hi Gabe
Does this system still work for you?
I would be pretty happy if it still does. I will set it up if it does. I read that NetFlix is thinking about going international. I am waiting for that day.
Thanks Kari

Re: Any equivalents of Hulu or streaming Netflix?

Yeah, I've been using a paid VPN (called StrongVPN) that lets me use Pandora radio, Hulu, Netflix, CBS, ABC media players, etc... It's frustrating paying for it, but the speed seems to be pretty decent, and they have a few different servers you can switch around between in case the speed isn't what you want.

Still not sure I watch or use Hulu et al to make it worth it, but it is working well so far (2 months or so).

Re: Any equivalents of Hulu or streaming Netflix?

I googled "watching Hulu from overseas" and found a variety of responses, most of which were for paid VPN services, but there were also a few that are supposed to be free. Does anyone have any luck with & recommendations for any free applications?

Movies2k.Although i would not download anything from this site. The streaming has most of the current television shows and a whole lot more.Beware as this site was mentioned as one of the targets of the Stop online piracy act. This site is also 100% free.

Re: Any equivalents of Hulu or streaming Netflix?

I can access Hulu no problem with Hotspot Shield installed.
There are a lot of annoying popups, but it basically works.

apple iTunes also works great for latest movies and tv shows if you have good network and don't mind paying. i use if for all my favorites. movie rentals are $4.99 for 24 hr period viewing.

I think the FBI's shutting down of MegaUpload shows that a sovereign legal framework may not be enough to protect CH against the same pressure used against Swiss banks.

Re: Any equivalents of Hulu or streaming Netflix?

I've never had luck with free VPN's for watching TV and generally I can find what I want via torrents or streaming sites. But I do like to have regular TV as it allows me to find things I might not know about.

Initially, I was also against paying for a VPN, but if you want a service why shouldn't you pay? You want cable TV you have to pay too. I don't have cable, so my US$15 is like paying for cable. But it gives me more of the channels I want to watch.

Re: Any equivalents of Hulu or streaming Netflix?

For basic US cable networks (i.e. Fox, CBS, NBC, etc.) you can use a free streaming program called USTVNOW http://www.ustvnow.com/login.php

When signing up, you need to agree and confirm you are a US citizen by clicking a box. Works great so far, especially for Superbowl Season

Go pats!

Re: Any equivalents of Hulu or streaming Netflix?

What about getting the capability to stream Hulu content on third party site, such as huffingtonpost.com? Is there an easy work-around for that?

Re: Any equivalents of Hulu or streaming Netflix?

Just get a VPN account to access Hulu, Netflix, Vudu via a US IP address. I suggest and personally use strongvpn.com. Great fast service and easy to setup. If you are a geek like me, you can get a dd-wrt compatible router and setup so all your IP addresses under say 192.168.0.100 goto the US, and all above that goto Switzerland.
I get a steady 5Mbps to New York which lets me stream HD content easily. I have my PS3 running Netflix, Hulu, Vudu direct to the television by going the router route.
Another good option is an AppleTV and iCloud with a US credit card (tho that is a lot more expensive if you haven't already spent a fortune on iTunes media).

Re: Any equivalents of Hulu or streaming Netflix?

I have a vpn through Astrill - cost is US$70 per annum (I have a link for another 10% off this price if you want it) which you can install onto any router running dd-wrt. The beauty of this is that all you devices (ipad, iphone, pc, etc.) connected to your router will use the VPN. I then installed XBMC onto my apple tv which allows me to use iplayer, 4od, hulu, etc. without any probs.

Hope this is useful.
