It's possible to say whatever about Swisscom (too expensive, not flexible, etc) and it will be the truth very likely. But it is a fact that the quality they provide is the best in Switzerland. I have many friends using Salt (Orange). Yes, it's less expensive but the quality is not that good. Swisscom quality is incomparable indeed. I would like to save some money but finally took a decision in favour of connection quality.
Salt is pretty miserable here, but Sunrise has dramatically improved over the last two years. I'd even claim that their network has surpassed that of Swisscom in Eastern Switzerland.

Just as a side note, if you're using iPhone, call *3001#12345#* There'll appear a number on top-left corner of your phone (signal part). The number will be negative and as far as I know its range is between -40 (good signal) and -130 (i.e. no signal).

In what regard?

- voice/sound quality?
- interruptions/dropped calls?
- data throughput/speed?
- customer service?
- ???

I have used Orange for years and later stayed with Salt for 2 years, but the connectivity/signal strength is poor.

voice/sound quality - poor due to week signal strength, not refering to basement, but in general
interruptions/dropped calls? - experienced both
data throughput/speed? - very good
customer service? - average

have been using Swisscom(though expensive), but works seamlessly, even in UG

hope that helps!

Strongly agree about Sunrise quality improved. Lebara is in Sunrise, I use it for calls abroad. So I can confirm the significant improvement.
But based on my experience, I am still for Swisscom (but it is too expensive). It works perfectly without roaming avg 20-30 km area from Swiss border in Italy, Germany and France. Again, it is a personal experience, somebody might have a negative practice with Swisscom connection quality.

Depends - We have one of each and exactly where we live I would say Salt is better.

Big minus for Sunrise here is that Liechtenstein is roaming (Salt and Swisscom it isn't). Won't affect 98% of the rest of you of course.

Salt is really good here whereas Sunrise is so weak it's almost non existent.
I changed from Sunrise because I was missing so many calls due to poor or no signal. It's not much use having a phone if you can only use it outside in the middle of the lawn and even the the quality is poorl

It's worth researching the various companies coverage in the area you'll mostly be using it in before committing to a contract as it varies widely depending on location.

Hubby has Swisscom and I have Salt and we haven't noticed any real difference in the signal between the two where we are.

I just signed for another 2 years on their deal of 19 per month for unlimited swiss calls and SMS and 3gb internet per month. Whatever the customer service you can't argue with that pricing.

All the tariff and call charges (domestic and roaming) are available on the respective websites.
From what I can see, there are roaming packages to region 1 and 2 which are reasonably priced compared to Swisscom. What I can't see is region 3 packages. Am I really going to pay the 15.60 per MB in south america, NZ, heck even Russia?

https://www.sunrise.ch/en/roaming

Can someone with Sunrise and experience of going slightly off the beaten track comment please?

Re: Swisscom vs Orange vs Sunrise signal strength... opinions please.

Swisscom ... is by far the best option here.
I have completed a world tour as Stage Manager in the last 18 months.
We have been to North and South America ( Brazil/Argentina/Chile/Canada)
In the past I had suffered from nightmare phone bills & horrendous internet charges.
This time I was determined to get it right & Swisscom came through.
I used the Infinity2.0 Medium package.
Combine this with the Start Travel service ( you send an sms to 444 and the costs are reduced )
You can top up your roaming ( 1GB costs 30.- )
My average monthly bill was 120.- ...

Just be aware in S America you are hardly ever going to find a mobile network higher than a 2G.
If your phone is set to 4G you are not going to get even a voice connection.
In order to get a continuous service go into your settings and lower the G's to 2G.

For i was lucky enough to have contract with my employer where they gave me $50.- per day for coms expenses, for once i was able to save some of this money and treat the kids to a holiday when I got home ..
