Re: Watching BBC in Switzerland?

Thanks for the info.

There is live coverage of the Premiership on the BBC World Service Saurday and Sunday afternoon (e.g on the Cablecom analogue and Bluewin digital TV networks). Also BBC London sometimes offers uninterrupted commentaries on football matches involving London teams. Sky also had web radio conference coverage on Saturday afternoon but this service seems to have been discontinued. You can also sign up for live radio commentaries by taking out a subscription with your favourite football club.

The only way you can listen to live footy on five live via internet is to change your IP address to a uk one . However I've asked this question on another thread and it has not proved easy to do. If you find the solution please let me know.
They don't scamble the commentary on sat reception.

Nick.
Nick, you need to change your proxy server to a UK-based one. Google for "free public proxy" and look on the sites there and you can try the UK ones and see if they help. YMMV of course.

Save some money if you use Cablecom digital tv from April

Hi,
from the 1st of April there are some changes to Cablecom. If you subscribe to Cablecom digital tv you will receive a letter which says that in future it will cost you 4 Sfr per month less than now as you will be subscribed to Digital basic and Cablecom collection. However, if none of the channels on Cablecom collection interest you then you can ring cablecom and cancel the Cablecom collection subscription and save yourself 15 sfr per month or Sfr 180 per year. You will still receive the english channels as they are part of the digital basic package.

Have fun
Martin

Re: Watching BBC in Switzerland?

Thank you to which ever of the moderators moved this post to watching the bbc in Switzerland. However, really it has have very little to do with that subject. The posting is about how not to be ripped off by Cablecom who will automatically move you to a subscription scheme post March that may not make sense. The post was abot saving money and little to nothing to do with watching the bbc. For example I watch a lot of german tv but it would still be applicable.

Regards

Martin

Re: Watching BBC in Switzerland?

Indeed, I was thinking about changing the title but this thread already does have the mention of the drop in prices. I'm trying to think of a suitable title or to pull certain posts from this thread.

Cablecom digital just got cheaper, anyway.

Re: Watching BBC [with Cablecom Digital Price drop news]

Hi,

my main point is not the drop in prices but that Cablecom is trying to trick people in to paying more than they need to ie. they only need to pay 6 sfr per month but Cablecom will try to get them to pay 21 Sfr.

Have fun

Martin

It's actually 25 + the cost of digital, I believe. You still have to pay the base charge.

AFAIK the BBC restricts most of their online programme material to UK IP addresses (there is some that is available worldwide).

If you can afford it, get a cheap digital satellite box along with a dish and decent LNB. You'll get all the BBC digital channels (BBC1, BBC2, BBC3/Cbeebies. BBC4/CBBC, BBC News24 and BBC Parliament) plus most of their radio channels too. And you can get all the ITV channels (ITV1, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, ITV Play) plus a smattering of various other free English language channels, including Sky News I think.

Actually, since regional variants are there for the BBC and ITV stations you actually have access to dozens and dozens of channels.

Gav
I have a digi receiver and lnb up for grabs if you're interested. This way you can get free to air channels, BBC, ITV, Film 4 ect...

No its 21 + 6 or 21 + 150 one off. But given that the box is going to take over 2 years to make it worth not renting it I question the sanity of that move...

Cablecomm Digital Set top box

I currently subscribe to CableComm and notice that digital transmissions are available ... good thing, as I'm a little bit over watching BBC Prime.

Anyway I would like to know what my options are for a set top box. I realise that I can rent/buy a STB from Cablecomm however I was wondering if there are other alternatives, i.e. can I buy a box from somewhere like MediaMart / STEG and if so what would you recommend, or am I stuck with the options from CableComm.

I recently relocated from Australia and happened to ship my Aus-STB with me however, this does not detect any of teh Cablecomm channels ... any ideas how I could get this to work, or is a no-go.

Cheers

am pretty sure that Cablecom tie you down to their set-top, for a variety of reasons ... that said, wait for Lob to come along & you will be kitted out with every possible permutation ...

Re: Cablecomm Digital Set top box

Cablecom Digital presently needs a box from Cablecom. Apparently this is 6 francs per month to rent or 150 francs to buy.

There are lots of other options. Your thread will be moving shortly I think

I think this is a good place - it has the news about the price drop for Cablecom Digital. Also have a look in this thread:
Using a DVB-C box for cable channels

Do note that there have been prosecutions for watching Cablecom Digital without paying. The Cablecom box has embedded Nagravision card slot and the Dreambox can decode the channels with emulators and keys.

If you have a compass, stand with the magnetic north pointing, erm, north and count around to 152 on the dial - that's the direction of the satellite.

Elevation is 32 degrees in Zurich.

Size should be 80cm or more otherwise you'll loose the Beeb during ****ty weather.

And electricians charge how much by the hour??!
A year ago I dutifully followed these helpful instructions and set up my own freeview service using an old Sky box .I got most channels but never BBC2 or Channel4 .But heh it was free.Suddenly last week a friend, unaware of the 'no BBC2 ", situation tried the channel and it miraculously appeared. We watched for a hour or so with no problems.Next day -gone again! Any suggestions as to how we might get it back and Channel4 if possible .
Thanks for the advice to date .
Hopeful

Larger dish I think. Seem to remember that these channels are broadcast on a narrower lobe, but not 100% sure.
