I enjoy step classes, but the Wii Fit step starts so easy and slow, and I needed to do it something like 5 times before I progressed to a slightly more difficult level. I found the jogging also boring, but the yoga is kind of okay, but you need to stand on the board for it to work.
It is great fun, but I recommend that you try it beforehand. Sadly, ours hasn't been used since last january.
We bought the Wii a couple of years ago and I've had the balance board + Wii Fit since last Spring. It's fun and works in combination with a number of other measures in keeping fit, losing weight (i.e. diet), providing you use it on a regular basis.
What I like most about it, is being able to just drag it out from under the TV and do my excersises in my living room for 30 mins or so. Not having to get dressed up to run around in the cold. Or having to travel somewhere to do exercises. It's a time-saver, basically.
I've had the Wii Fit plus game since Christmas, which gives even more variation and individual training set-ups.
I also think it's good for the kids - as they move around while they're gaming instead of just sitting still on the sofa, moving their thumbs!
We have a mini-trampoline/rebounder (good quality, Trimilin) to bounce around on too. A god-send when the boys get excited!
Oh yes, it was true and it would involve you making effort. Sorry.
No, it wasn't a problem.... You are just mentionning the obvious, what everyone knows already. I'm asking for opinion on the game and on how it makes a difference or not. Not on using the game instead to jog or bike...
It looks like you didn't read all the posts because we all said that + we got useful tips about the game!

Ok ok I hold my hands up... I just balk at the idea of computer games used to exercise.
I'm sure that in conjunction with a good diet (this would be absolute key) that you could lose weight and get fitter with a Wii. But you would need to really go at it for 40-60 mins to burn off enough calories (which again, would need to be kept low with the diet.
I guess all those people who lost weight playing Wii Fit are wrong then ?
There are some computer games which can make you lose weight. Dance Dance Revolution for example is played by some people religiously, sometimes several hours a day, and all that frentic movement will surely burn off calories. Same for the Wii Fit. It is "movement" after all, and any movement versus sitting on ones butt chomping chips and watching TV's is better than none at all. Of course now if I sit on front of my PC and play games flicking the mouse around is only really going to excercise my wrist, and we all know how useful that can be for us men

You lose weight if you are obese and literally do nothing all day, yes. But to get you fit? Fit is not losing a bit of weight.
Maybe we need to define "fit" then. Does it mean that one has less than 15% body fat? I think that can be achieved with some of the exercises in Wii Fit if you don't overindulge as I mentioned some posts earlier.
Or having muscles? Well, that will be a little harder as the Wii Fit doesn't really contain exercises to build muscle tissue easily.
I think "some" computer games can help you lose fat and get fit more easily than doing nothing at all, because yes, even by not moving one does burn calories. But if you only burn 50 calories an hour by sitting down versus burning 200 calories by walking around for one hour, then surely one can burn close to 200 calories in 30 minutes by using a Wii Fit.
After that, it's all a question of complementing it with proper nutrition and determination.
No comment on the fitness, but as a games machines, I don't think I've played it in a year. I'm not so much into casual games, which is all there seems to be avavilable for the wii.
It is quite fun for parties but almost lost a TV to over enthusiastic bowling and a loose rug.
Sounds like you need to get out of the house and a Wii isn't going to do anything in this regard. There are gyms that offer babysitting. Might be a better investment.

Well, Wii sport with fitness DVD and other sport accessories are nice way to spend evening but I would not bet all my wellness on it, if you know what I mean... I just came back from ABB's fitness centre with limited weights, nordic walk, threadmill but it is still more than Wii and rubber gadgets can offer. I would say Wii exercises combined with active lifestyle might work but alone it won't keep you in good shape.
I have seen similar mishaps as well. Make sure the wrist strap is on if bowling enthusiastically
Grrrr i don`t want to remember that night you was a very good bowler
Nil we have wii fit and love it the balance boared is very good, and you can do the advance steps while watching the T.V, but first start slow and watch the mills. I also love the yoga i felt muscles that i have never felt before. I would fully recommend buying the Wii fit, and if you buy the Wii then also play the other fun fitness games i.e family ski, and boxing.

I won't forget when my other half and I everytime we travel we take with us our Wii console for fun. It is small and portable, easy to be put in a suitcase. Last time we were sweating when we're playing tennis Grand Slam. I should say she was sweating more as my favourite Nadal kicked her Federer's ass. However she was better at golf and baseball which I hated big time. Frankly boxing made me really tired as I tried to punch the same guy gazillion numeber of times. My favourite was golf though where I made to pro with -3 best result in every level.
However for skiing exercise I would definitely go to the slopes instead
