Re: Did Wii FIT you?

I have the wii fit and the new wii fit plus. Having 3 small kids at home and no babysitter (so no chance of getting to the gym any more), I find it a great help in toning up bits that chasing around the park and pushing loaded pushchairs do not reach. Anyone who can hit the "on fire" level on super hula hoop will confirm this is genuine physical activity that breaks you out in a sweat! ... and for those of you who presume I must not need much to break a sweat - before my last child I was cycling on average 40km a night so am pretty familiar with a good work out

I also like that the balance board aspect (in particular the yoga) emphasises the importance of posture - especially after having the kids, anything that strenghthens core muscles is a plus. I do not use it as a weight loss tool per se, but my sister who has a 1yr old and works from home has managed to shift 7kg over the last 6 months just by using it.

Some of the games are fun and distracting so you do not notice that you are working new muscles. I have to say I find it much more enjoyable that going to the gym ever was

The added bonus is that it is also something the kids get to play too on some of the games. Our 5 year old loves the brain training game and I am amazed to see how his hand/eye coordination has improved and his ability to do quite complex tasks.

Just my thoughts... definately a good buy for mums with limited free time

Re: Did Wii FIT you?

Reading all these quick posts I also can't wait praising WII. Wii counts the days you started, today I did my exercise for the 623th day on it. My experience is quite wonderful, we enjoy it more as our family time. When Dad forget to play on WII my son/me gets quick reminder to pay attention to DAD. It also has your daily weight chart along with the calories burned and calories of food. (in new WII fit plus). If you do/play games on WII Fit, your body will be more flexible and toned but don't expect to reduce your weight. Funniest part is that once when my 40+ old friend (with a figure of 30+) tried WII plus she got a weird 'fitness tip'-- when old age sets in your lower body gets weak early' of course she took that as challange and at the end of excercises she got age 24 as her Wii fit age. (no wonder she bought WII plus on next day)

So if you are ready to spend it's worth. All from age 3 to 99 will enjoy WII plus.

Computer games will never make you 'fit'. Just go for a run or bike ride if you're serious about it.
See I would, but it gets a little hard with a toddler strapped to my back. There is an option to get one of those fancy jogger's carts for a kiddo, but it is so overpriced and I would feel like a horse after a while. I can't see my tot sitting still in it, either.

Some gyms do have a garderie, but not everyone's comfortable dropping off a curious and intense toddler to a complete stranger.

I like gym since to get out is a treat, and seeing others sweat is a great motivation. On the other hand, all these posts made me excited about Wii, a friend has it and never really used it so I thought it's just a fad. I would like to avoid some harrassing douchebags in gym, too, so I am really starting to think about it..Plus, I forgot my hoolahoop back home

I so agree with the post of a kid getting the eye-hand coordination exercised, we accidentally showed Nintendo to our child and I could not believe how quickly her fine motoric skills improved. All of a sudden she can draw faces, cut with knife when eating, cut with scissors..So there definitely are benefits of this kind of stimulation, eventhough she only plays with it little bit.

Hey chick you have loooads of options. If you have a bike you can get a stand for it that lets you pedal in place without moving. You can also get a rowing machine or cross trainer (very good for getting fit, they burn a lot of cals). The baby doesn't have to be dropped off with anyone.

We are thinking to buy Wii Fitness. And I would love to hear from you if you have one.

Do you like it? How is the balance board? Does it work for you?
Knowing it is not a gym, do you still think it does make a change if you use it daily?

Nil
We have it at home - and recently bought Fit Plus for it. I was shocked to see that a half hour work-out on the Fit only burns about 100 calories. Spending the same time jogging will be about 3-4 times as effective and costs nothing.

That said - it's ok for winter when it's butt-freezing cold outside.

Re: Did Wii FIT you?

Here is my personnal review on the Wii;

Awwwww ouch!

We bought the Black Edition yesterday. The Balance Board was sold out so we will have to wait a week. The Black Edition comes with Wii sports and Wii Sports Resort.

We have so much pain today! It was very intertaining and we had great fun.

Asthmatics keep you pump close!

My arms are painfuls (I am ambidextrous, so I got to have pain on both arms equally) My legs are painful for jumping all around the place and my stomach as well.

It is not like going to the gym, it's more FUN! We played 4 hours and it didn't seem like it. This is definitely not to replace the gym, but for me, it does why I need: Moving!

Re: Did Wii FIT you?

Answering the OP: Nope. Looked like fun, and it is a bit of fun but I haven't got the power to get in front of my own TV and exercise. I need to join a gym for that.

However I now realise that there's a WiiFit Plus - maybe it has the features which will change me. I need it.

Damn marketing.

Pleased that it seems to be living up to your expectations. I reckon the FUN element is the key.
