SIM cards for mobiles.

Is it difficult to buy a sim card for your mobile phone. I am going to bring my trusty, basic Nokia with us. Is pay as you go available, you prepay a certain amount. We seldom use our house phone in BKK as it is very cheap to use a mobile. I am doubting that this will be the case in Switzerland though! In Bangkok you can just go to the 7 11 and buy a new one for about 300 baht (5gbp) and off you go, calling time included. I am hoping, but not optimistic it will be that same in Zug

Re: SIM cards for mobiles.

I Bought a sim card in the Migros (Supermarket) that cost about 19Sf. All my wifes relatives assured me this was the best deal about for pay as you go. The only problems I found with it are that if you turn off the phone it ask you for the Id number when you turn it back on and it texts you with the cost of every call. So I dont turn it off and I ignore the texts. Problems solved.

Re: SIM cards for mobiles.

Most of the mobile providers do Prepay tariffs, Not sure they will be as cheap as where you are now, But if you go to comparis.ch you can compare all the tariffs,

Also here are a couple of links to Orange and Swisscom prepay, am fairly sure they are not the cheapest.

Swisscom Mobile - NATEL® easy liberty
Welcome to Orange

Re: SIM cards for mobiles.

I think M Budget (avaible in nearly all Migros stores) or Prix Garantie Mobile (avaible in nearly all Coop stores) is a good choice for what you need... It's cheaper then the large mobile companies (Swisscom, Orange, Sunrise etc...) are.

So long,

Take a look at the menu settings for your phone. There should be somewhere, the option to cancel using the PIN number when you switch the device on.

I would however recommend using a PIN in case the phone ever gets nicked, then the thief would have all your calling credit and address book details.

Try Yallo ( www.yallo.ch ) . They have a basic .39 rappen per minute charge to anywhere in Europe. Calls to other Yallo users are charged at .05 Rappen per minute. There is no subscription charge.

They are available in Post Offices, Kiosks or online at the above address.

Hope this helps

I would also recommend a Migros Mobile. It might also be usefull to check out skype for phone calls as well. It is very cheap, especially if you are calling to a normal land line phone abroad. If you pay your skype calls with a Swiss credit card you also get them tax free.

Re: SIM cards for mobiles.

Hi,

Everyone has failed to mention the most important, unless you of course already know.

You must register, in order to be allowed to use the phone.

So, you must after or on purchase, show all documentation, in order to proove that you are going to use the phone for legitimate reasons, otherwise it's a piece of long string and two bean cans.

No dodgy stuff here where bean cans, er. mobile phones I mean here.

Well, that sounds a little exaggerated, you just need to show your passport (or ID card of most european countries) and give the vendor your name, address and DOB.
