Hi all,

I have been searching through the threads but cannot find the info I need. I want to get a mobile phone, prepaid or pay as you go,definitely no contracts as I have had enough of problems with contract phones from 3. I just need a basic phone that I can top up when I want to.

I also need to know if I can just walk into a shop and get one,someone told me I need to present my permit as prove of id. Will I have to wait a while before a phone/sim is issued.

I think there are loads of posts on here about mobile phone tariffs etc.
Do a search.
It will probably be Post Office and Migros.

I got a PAYG sim from an Orange shop for 10chf when I arrived - I explained I didn't yet have my residency permit, but showed them the receipt from my commune and my passport and they seemed more than happy to sell it to me - i even choose my phone number, and left the shop within 5 minutes, all very easy!

For the pay as you go you only need to show them a passport. But if you want to take a contract then they will ask for the permit.

I got mine last week from the coop. They didn't need any ID at all (I might have shown my passport anyway, I can't remember) and for 5CHF you get a SIM card which has 15CHF credit on it.

I'm currently debating with myself just to buy new cards each time I run out of credit. Yes, my number keeps changing, but getting 10CHF free credit each time sounds cool

THey use the Orange network (and you can use the orang web page, which is in English, to check out various things).
