can I have caller blocked from calling my fixnet?

Is it possible to sign up for a "National Do Not Call Registry" as in the USA&Canada or to have Swisscom block an incoming phone number?

Last night a telemarketer called at dinner time. I hung up as soon as I figured out it was a telemarketer calling(not very polite but I really find it impolite to have my home life invaded). The telemarketer then spent the evening calling me and hanging up. All evening. I did not turn off the phone because I was waiting for calls with updates on my father's surgery.

For those who want to write suggestions.
All I really need to know is there any way to block these calls?

Thanks for your help,
Kari

The telemarketer was calling you and then hanging up the moment your replied? Just to spite you? That's just crazy...

You have got to complain!

Re: can I have caller blocked from calling my fixnet?

The issue is that the Caller Id read "unavailable". My Swiss husband thinks we will not get any results by contacting Swisscom to find out the number used to call from.

If it is happening again and again, you can lodge a complaint with the police indicating the exact time and the number of times this happened. They can then get the information from your phone provider.

On demand Swisscom will put your name on a list which says that you do not wish to receive such calls. In the next edition of the telephone book your name will have an '*' attached to it. But since the telemarketers buy and sell addresses, this will have a limited effect.

Recently the law has changed. In the future we will have more protection from these pests. However, the details of how this is going to happen haven't been worked out yet as far as I know.

Re: can I have caller blocked from calling my fixnet?

Thanks everyone! So very helpful.

A friend told me to get an (*) listed by my number to limit the telemarketing calls.
(Listed below are the links to information).

I went to the directories.ch site to get an (*) put by my telephone number, but it has already been done by my husband a long time ago. I read it is an honor system. (Oh I do miss the heavy fines companies get for telemarketing in USA).

http://www.directories.ch/base.aspx?...iv&language=en

To put a (*) by your fixnet use site
http://www.directories.ch/process.aspx

Listed information:
Advertising Block
If you do not wish to receive advertising, you may choose to have your address flagged with an asterisk * free of charge in Directories products. This advertising block flag (*) is binding for all advertisers! Directories makes all addresses flagged with an asterisk (*) available to other providers of telephone directory products. However, Directories assumes no liability for situations in which third parties disregard this advertising block, e.g. if addresses are illegally copied from Directories products. Directories does not engage in address sales.

Please note: We would like to point out that addresses flagged for an advertising block (*) will not automatically be entered into the Swiss direct marketing association's "Robinson list". For an advertising block to take effect for address sales, please also request a listing in the "Robinson List for Addressed Advertising Material" and the "Robinson List for Direct Sales" (door-to-door sales).
Direct your request to: www.dmverband.ch or send an e-mail to robinsonliste@dmverband.ch

Telephone marketing “no-call“ list
CallNet.ch, the industry association for call center and customer contact management, introduced a no-call list for telephone marketing in January 2008. This list is based on listings marked with an asterisk in the Directories telephone book. The list is regularly updated with these Directories no-call listings.. An honor code was introduced alongside the no-call list. All signatories of the honor code commit to not contacting persons on the no-call list by telephone.
Please note that the no-call list is maintained by CallNet.ch and not by Directories.

To put a (*) by your fixnet use site

Thanks Barron, I will contact the police if the calls continue. Thank goodness you are all out there, I really felt alone this morning!

Oh, it may come to this eventually although the fines will probably not be as high as in the States.

Re: can I have caller blocked from calling my fixnet?

In the future just have Swisscom take your number and name out of the phone book. I always have my number unlisted when I am in Switzerland. I think this will help a great deal....

They'll have a big laugh if you do so. To say "this is not my duty" is a national pastime in Helvetistan
