Finally!
I will consider porting my number to them from Coop. Sometimes the Orange network gets on my nerves......

the below works for an iphone on the O2 network (UK), but i suspect that other networks do similar.

if you have a locked iphone, it is now possible to get it unlocked so that you can use any SIM. it's free to do if you're on anything apart from a pay as you go tariff (PAYG unlock is 15 quid).

you just need to go onto the O2 website and register your details to get it unlocked. takes up to 14 days. if you are in the middle of a contract, then you will, of course, still have to honour the remaining payments, but can still get it unlocked.

once you're unlocked, you're good to go to use a Swiss prepaid SIM.
After all Migros doesn't look such good an offer... I will keep my prepaid with Coop Mobile for the moment.

I want to buy an el cheapo prepaid phone when I arrive, very basic, don't need bells and whistles, data etc, so am I just as well to go with Coop or Orange? Thanks.

Definitely not Orange.

Coop is very good if you think you will need to make calls abroad, because it applies the same rate for calls within Switzerland and to a list of countries.
The countries are (in French, sorry): Allemagne, Autriche, France, Italie, Monaco, Saint Marin, Vatican, Andorre, Australie, Belgique, Canada, Danemark, Espagne, Etats-Unis, Finlande, Gibraltar, Grèce, Guernesey, Iles Féroé, Irlande, Islande, Jersey, Luxembourg, Malte, Norvège, Nouvelle Zélande, Pays-Bas, Portugal, Royaume Uni, Suède).
Australia is included.
The rate is CHF 0.30 per minute, and you get charged per second without a minimum cost or any kind of connection fee.
It is a very good cost if you are interested to call abroad.

On the other hand you can definitely find better rates if you only care about calls within Switzerland.

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

Thanks for the helpful advice posted in this thread so far.

Could someone please confirm whether Orange's Mobile Internet Max option (19.- per month for 1Gb of mobile data) is available on prepaid accounts? There aren't any details on the site but the lack of reference to it here and other places seems to me to imply that it might only be for contract accounts.

AFAIK it's only for post-paid accounts.

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

So the Sunrise prepay option looks good for making lots of VOIP?

Anyone know if i can just pop into a shop and purchase a sim, or a good phoneshop near Oerlikon that can supply Sunrise sims?

TIA

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

Do Coop offer micro sim cards? Or do they only offer the normal ones? I'm looking to get a pre-paid card with reasonable mobile internet rates and good international tariffs for my new Iphone 4.

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

Hi All, I have an Advent 4213 with intergrated 3gmobile broadband. I just need the sim.
I was thinking of ordering the Sunrise T@KE AWAY pre paid but it seems the tariff shows 3- per hour now, instead of 3.50- per day, is that true?

The other option is Swisscoms Natel Easy BeFree which is only 4- per day unlimited!
The trouble is I want to order online and get them delivered to my address in Switzerland. With Sunrise its easy to order online but with Swisscom, when you go to check out on their website, they charge 99- because they throw in a dongle modem. I only need the SIM. Is there a website or a way I can get the Swisscom Natel deal, without paying for the modem too? Or am I doing something wrong on Swisscoms website?

Thanks for any help.

What you want is the post-pay option, not the prepay. They're having a sale right now where you don't pay the 10 fr per month basic fee but still get the 3.5 fr daily rate.

exactly - it's a contract but if you sign up until September, they won't (ever) charge you the 10 Fr. basic fee they usually do with this type of subscription.
It's post-pay - so you get a bill for your usage. If you don't use it, it's free.

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

Quick question, what are you all doing for mobile internet internationally?

I've been collecting SIMs in the countries I visit (in Italy I use Vodaphone USB Mobile Internet) Any advice for rest of EU and US? or its just best to get local Mobile internet there? (i'm not a fan of Wifi hotspots).

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

Thank you so much Peter for all your help. I must say that it seems the Natel Easy Befree looks more like it is for mobiles and not for 3g Mobile broadband on notebooks? am I right?
Also I would like to buy online and have it delivered to my apartment so its there when I get back. I can't find any links for the Swisscom online shop, to just buy a sim. Or am I just being dumb?

All in all it looks like Sunrise might be easier, the only thing is I don't want the temptation of using up more days and then paying for it later. Thats why I liked the idea of prepaid, I can't run up a big bill!!

Anyway unless, I am being dumb on the swisscom site, please tell me otherwise.

Many Thanks again!

as far as I can tell, that's the only way to do it right now. Any kind of data roaming options you can get here will ruin you financially.

I'll be heading for Hungary soon - I'll get a 500mb / month pre-pay internet package there from T-Mobile. It's dirt cheap (about 9.80 Fr. + about 15 for the pre-paid SIM). Vodafone Hungary also has mobile internet packages but I found T-Mobiles offer to be more straight forward and easy to use.

I also have a Vodafone internet card for Germany - but that one's rather expensive.
