Thank you so much Peter for all your help. I must say that it seems the Natel Easy Befree looks more like it is for mobiles and not for 3g Mobile broadband on notebooks? am I right?
it really doesn't matter what you use it with - they'll allow you to use it in any kind of mobile device.

I Hope you haven't nodded off yet.
One last thing, with Swisscom, you need to register at a Swisscom outlet to enable the sim card you order online to work. Is that just Swisscom shops or is it other partners like Interdiscount etc. It isn't clear, it says Swisscom outlets, is that partners too?

Sorry probably sent you to sleep myself.....

Thanks for all the help...really!

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

After much deliberating I have decided to go for the Sunrise deal. The thing is, I do not live in Switzerland. My relatives have a small chalet up in Oberwallis. It is remote and has no TV, so therefore they do not pay Billag. If I get it delivered there from Sunrise does anyone know (especially Peter), if they will then get hasseled by Billag? It is only a sim I am buying but since I have no Swiss address, I need it sent there. Even If I go top a shop, they want an address. What I am asking is will Sunrise forward the fact that I bought an internet sim to Billag? I will only be at the chalet for 3 days and then off around Switzerland using the purchsed sim. So Billag should not apply, or should it? Any thoughts?

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

Maybe I do, but when you have had letter after threatening letter until you prove to Billag that you don't receive media, you don't want to start that off again!
Do Sunrise tell Billag that you purchased an mobile broadband sim?

Thats all I am asking. Thanks for any info.

I'll be heading for Hungary soon - I'll get a 500mb / month pre-pay internet package there from T-Mobile. It's dirt cheap (about 9.80 Fr. + about 15 for the pre-paid SIM). Vodafone Hungary also has mobile internet packages but I found T-Mobiles offer to be more straight forward and easy to use.
I'll be soon off to Hungary as well!
To me, Vodafone looks much better though.

Vodafone:
If you use up to 50 MB, it's free.
If you use 51 - 250 MB, it's 1000 HUF.
If you use 251 - 500 MB, it's 2000 HUF.
If you use 501 - 750 MB, it's 3000 HUF.
Etc.

T-Mobile:
If you use up 500 MB, it's 1990 HUF.
After that, it's 100 HUF / MB.

In other words:
In a month where you use up to 250 MB, you're better off with Vodafone (up to 1990 HUF).
In a month where you use 251 - 500 MB, it doesn't matter (you save 10 HUF with T-Mobile).
In a month where you use 501 - 530 MB, you're better off with T-Mobile (up to 910 HUF).
In a month where you use more than 530 MB, you're better off with Vodafone (47990 HUF if you use 1 GB, 1431990 HUF if you use 15 GB) .

What I don't know though is which network is better...

Quick question, what are you all doing for mobile internet internationally?

I've been collecting SIMs in the countries I visit (in Italy I use Vodaphone USB Mobile Internet) Any advice for rest of EU and US? or its just best to get local Mobile internet there? (i'm not a fan of Wifi hotspots).

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

I am going to order the Sunrise abo 3.50sfr/day Ult'd.
The thing is does anyone know how good the network coverage is in Oberwallis? I use a Yallo prepaid sim in my mobile and I think they use Sunrise network, its always a good connection but its alot different surfing with mobile broadband to making a call I guess.

By the looks of the coverage map http://maps.sunrise.ch/coverage.php?language=de Where I am in 3944 Unterbaech, has only GSM/EDGE. Having never used mobile broadband, will my sunrise sim work for surfing with GSM/EDGE or does it have to be 3G coverage to work? I have a Netbook with integrated HSPA modem.

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

Does anyone know if you get that TAKE AWAY deal with Sunrise, can you still take some prepaid calling deal in combination with that? I am quite interested to have mobile internet on my phone but still want to be reachable for those friends that call.

EDGE works quite alright, it's just much slower.

You can't combine it with anything, you'll get a number though and you can also make calls with it.

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

I think the mobile internet plans stink in Switzerland.
First of all I noticed that Swiss telecomunication companies are actively trying to avoid well established terms such as "3G", "4G" and "megabit"
in their marketing campaigns. So essentially you have to read the fine print (if you're lucky) to find out ANYTHING about the connection speed

Also Swisscom seems to have 2 mobile internet models

one based on accessing the internet from your mobile phone (EXPENSIVE)
the other on accessing the internet from your notebook (NOT SO EXPENSIVE)(but I think the hoax is that they will try to push an overprized huawei usb modem on you instead)

...BUT both use the exact same technology -> a SIM card and HSDPA

Can't I just sign up for the cheap plan and switch the SIM from my Netbook to my mobile phone forth and back?? Is that too much asked?

and then there's the IPAD....

WHY invent a third plan when the only difference consists of the SIZE of the SIM card in use? Everything else is identical (except for the price, of course ) doesn't that strike anyone as odd?

Also they don't say if there is any kind of traffic shapeing for people staying on the internet all day long but not really consuming more than a couple of bytes to keep the line open (People should know by now that SIP allows for freecalls on VOIP capable mobile phones)

and then there's skype for iphone which offer's free video calls. Again, something tells me that mobile communication providers aren't exactly happy about this situation... meaning they would do anything (legal or illegal) to cut off the end users from enjoying a free phone over internet

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

Hello,

Could someone help me here... I am interested in the .10/mb offer at Migros but it looks like that only applies to the usb stick?

I'm interested in, obviously, prepaid, .10/mb or less without the monthly charges (that some plans say are prepaid?!)

It will also work in a phone.
Calls might not work though with this SIM.

Yes, Sunrise 7.50 for 250 MB you can also get with prepaid, as it has been said.
You can cancel it any month you don't need it.

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

Has anyone noticed that sunrise surf is even cheaper than advertised?

First, if you get a prepaid SIM without mobile phone ("Sunrise prepaid smart SIM"), you get discounts for topping up:
For 30.-, it's 5.- (16.67%)
For 50.-, it's 10.- (20%)
For 100.-, it's 30.- (30%)
For 300.-, it's 150.- (50%)

Second, there is Sunrise Prontomax. Topping up with Credit Card get you 3 points per Swiss Franc. Sunrise Surf gives you 50 points per month. 200 points are worth 2.- if you use them to top up.

If you really choose to top up for 300.-, you pay
(7.50 - 0.50 - 7.5*0.03) * 2/3 = 4.51 CHF
If you top up for 100.-, you pay
(7.50 - 0.50 - 7.5*0.03) * 0.77 = 5.21 CHF
If, more realistically, you top up for 50.-, you pay
(7.50 - 0.50 - 7.5*0.03) * 0.83 = 5.65 CHF
And if you top up for 30.-, you pay
(7.50 - 0.50 - 7.5*0.03) * 0.86 = 5.81 CHF
Even with top ups below 30.-, it's only
(7.50 - 0.50 - 7.5*0.03) * 1 = 6.78 CHF
as long as you top up with your credit card and don't forget to redeem you prontomax points.

I hope some cheapskates find this information useful

I went to the swisscom shop, showed them my new iPhone4, and they replaced my sim with microsim for free. The guy even put in the microsim into the phone for me to make sure it works.
