Yes I could turn it off but when I went to turn it on it did not start. Eventually it started again. One can turn it off under Paket Data. | Quote: | | | | | I have the same issue - I can never update or download anything from the App Store (I'm using an iPhone). That's why I asked if anyone else is experiencing similar (slow) speeds, apparently I am not the only one.
About the turning on/off of the Internet, you should have a setting where you can turn on (or off) 'cellular data', I am not sure where to find this setting on an Andriod phone though.

Sometimes it can take some time before it finds and connects to the data network.
To be honest, I never turn off my data network, it is always on in my case.
Enjoy your mobile Internet |

Just checked. It does not start by itself. Only when one starts to use a data service | Quote: | | | | | Well I'll check that tomorrow when I turn it on . At the moment I have 52 Franks credit.
Just how does one turn off the Internet? Is that called " Offline Modus"?

The offer from Sunrise prepaid is even better: for 7.5 Fr. you get 250 MB data volume. if you use it also for voip calls, you save even more money.

You will burn through that 250MB in nothing flat with VOIP calls. I'm not sure of how many minutes you would get but I'm quite sure it will be gone in no time.
With Sunrise go dayflat you get the first 20KB free each day. So depending on how your phone is setup you might be able to see if you got email and even read a few before it trips the 1 CHF.

I use my Sunrise prepaid with surf option. I checked my data usage for voip.
It's about 2.5 minutes per MB. For 250 MB you can make about 600 minutes void calls, which is more than enough for a normal user. You should set voice codec only to GSM in your voip Apps. This save a lot of bandwidth.

Hmmm, interesting. Expected way higher. Which phone and app are you using?

Samsung Galaxy and CSipsimple. Important is, only use GSM codec. It is 13.2kbits/direction, or 26.4kbits/s both ways, or 3.3 kB/s = 200 kB/min. Add some IP overhead, it comes close to 2.5 min/MB, which is 400 kB/min.

OK iSmart fans,
obviously in a continually changing world, a lot of the info here is already obsolete, however, having trawled the most recent posts, my specific query doesn't seem to be answered here, or on the various providers' own sites.
I am looking for pre-paid, mobile internet connection for my laptop ONLY (usb stick). All the deals I've come across seem to be primarily for iSmart phones or dual (phone and laptop).
I have a bog-standard pre-paid phone which satisfies my requirements and have no reason to change this.
But occasionally it would be useful to connect to the interweb on the few occasions that I'm let out - e.g. a couple of hours a week when I'm stuck in limboland whilst my daughter does whatever it is I've taken here to; and a few other odd instances here and there - but not a huge regular requirement for downloading and uploading - just a bit forum type stuff and an occasional bit of on-line tele, maybe - although I'm aware that this will quickly eat allowances and pennies.
This from Aldi in their ad-mag caught my eye, but again seems to be for a phone too (included sim-card) - although I don't have to use that (do I?).
Does anyone have any info/advice to this, or anything else that might suit my needs?
Thanks.

If you like a monthly subscription, the sunrise prepaid with surf option is the best choice. 250 MB costs 7.5 Fr./month. If you like to pay per MB, then choose the Budget mobile internet from Migros. Here you pay 0.10Fr./MB only for the data volume you used. By the way, Migros mobile uses Swisscom network.

if you're a bit tech savvy, here's the absolute best solution for occasional surfing with your laptop.
You will need
- Sunrise prepaid with dataflat option (chf 1 per day for unlimited).
- a USB stick modem. I have a Huawei, also from Sunrise.
Now the published rate for surfing with the USB modem is chf 3.50 per day. But if you look around on the web, you will find that the Huawei can be ... well.. unlocked. Which means you can use your phone SIM in the USB modem
Happy surfing..

I did ask in Migros this evening, but the woman at the info counter looked at me blankly and sent me back into the store to where the memory sticks are kept (doh!), so asked another woman who took me back to the info stand,
Anyway, despite being a relatively new, quite big Migros, it's only a 2M, and they don't have them.
But for same initial outlay (39,90), Aldi offer 0,09Fr/MB and 20Fr voucher compared with Migros 0,10Fr/MB and 15Fr voucher. Unless someone tells me that +/- 0,10Fr/MB is not viable, then, for my needs Aldi seems to have it (so far). | Quote: | | | | | if you're a bit tech savvy, here's the absolute best solution for occasional surfing with your laptop.

Happy surfing.. | | | | | Thanks - I'm not so tech savvy, but can usually work my way round most problems, but I really wanted quite a simple solution. I just saw this Aldi add today, although I wasn't specifically looking, and it just made me realise that things may be easier and not as expensive as I had one time thought.

I think you need the SIM card, and put it into the USB stick/modem

I was also led to believe, (via the missus and her help desk) that the sim card fits somewhere inside the laptop (on her work one, she was told it goes behind the battery).
I've looked at my manual and nothing is written - unless it goes in the SD slot (both about same size and shape).
Hopefully all will be more apparent once I have it.

The prices from Aldi and Migros are more or less the same. But Migros has the Swisscome network, which has by far the best coverage. Migros has better support than Aldi.

I tried GrooVeIP which is a Google Voice Android app. Happy to report great connection to the US using Wi-Fi and equally impressive over cellular data connection using 1 CHF/day Sunrise data. I'm sure it uses a higher data rate but obviously irrelevant using unlimited daily data. Of course, limited to US (maybe Canada calls).
A question to you though regarding the 250 MB. What happens when you go over? It's quite fuzzy regarding that. Can you then simply decide to start using 1 CHF/day data or are you stuck with paying by the MB? If you can would you cancel Sunrise Surf and then reenable after the month was up, etc?

I don't know which has the priority, "dayflat" or "surf option". In case of "surf option", what happend if 250 MB is reached, which will apply, "dayflat" or 0.10Fr./MB. If you want to clarify this issue, you should ask sunrise. There is a workaround to avoid this confusion: you can sign-off the "internet dayflat" by sending the SMS "DATAFLAT STOP" to 5522. After the termination of "internet dayflat", you can activate the "surf option".

I just noticed that ok Mobile offers two data plans on prepaid too:
300 MB - 7 CHF / month
1 GB - 15 CHF / month http://www.okpunktstrich.ch/mobile/i...=services#tab3
If i am not wrong, ok mobile uses the Orange network.
