I just noticed that ok Mobile offers two data plans on prepaid too:
300 MB - 7 CHF / month
1 GB - 15 CHF / month

http://www.okpunktstrich.ch/mobile/i...=services#tab3

If i am not wrong, ok mobile uses the Orange network.
yupp - and Orange doesn't seem to be making any headway in term of EDGE deployment. In fact, since they got bought by those investment sharks, the network expansion (which was supposed to be completed in 2012) seems to have been put on hold.

Here I posted speedtest results for Sunrise mobile Internet:
Average speed of Sunrise mobile internet
Prepaid Sunrise Dataflat (1 CHF/day) is capped to 250 speed. I read it when I was researching which to go with. I generally see it solidly pegged at 250 like your tests. I just tried to find the page it was on but not understanding German is making it a little difficult. I've made calls using GrooveIP and they were crystal clear.

I just had a look at the rates and they seem really reasonable, I'm not looking for data as I have vodafone data traveller so I get 25mb a day for 10GBP a month. I'm just looking for a sim to put in my second phone so I can make calls here and to the UK and texts etc.

What is the coverage like for yallo? is the network they use good?

Prepaid mobile internet plans

Hi,

What is the best option for mobile internet connection, prepaid? I would need at least 300 Mbs a month, preferably more. I already have the phone.

With all the subscription I have seen so far, if you sign a contract you must stay 12 or 24 months. Is there any way to be charged monthly but without binding yourself for a long period of time? (this is possible in my country) I always forget to recharge money so I'd prefer anything but prepaid, but I'm staying less than a year in Switzerland and can't sign a 12 month contract.

Thanks!

Re: Prepaid mobile internet plans

I am not sure if I am answering your question correctly because you are contradicting yourself.

You say

1) YOu are staying here less than 1 year so you don't want a contract

ok...but

2) I always forget to recharge money so I'd prefer anything but prepaid

I'll assume you meant #1

Sunrise has a very good offer for its prepaid customers. You can get 500 MB/mo and they charge less than 8 CHF for that. You can get this option on your prepaid

Sorry I didn't explain myself correctly. In Spain it is possible to get a mobile contract without binding yourself for a specific period of time, you can cancel it any time you want without charges. I don't know if such a thing exists in Switzerland.

I'll check Sunrise's offer, thanks!

I'm checking the website and it says it is 7.50 CHF for 250 Mb/mo (Sunrise Surf), 19.- CHF for 1 Gb/Mo (Sunrise surf XL). Perhaps it was a special offer what you say?

Re: Prepaid mobile internet plans

It is prepaid and can be activated by sending an SMS for a 30 day period, and has to be consecutively renewed in the same way as and when you need it.

You probably need an Aldi Mobile SIM, though.

https://www.aldi-mobile.ch/angebote/surfoption.html

Aldi use Sunrise .... although technically you're with Aldi Mobile.

I reply to myself, Orange offers contracts with no minimum contract duration, you can cancel it without charges with a 30-day warning. But you don't get the 10chf/month discount for not choosing a new phone.

Putting "mobile data" into the search bar gives two very recent threads on exactly the same topic:

Which carrier for Prepaid Mobile Data and Good Coverage?

Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

So how does this work with prepaid?
You activate this and 6 CHF get's taken out of your prepaid budget and then you can just use up the 150 MB? or is that 6 CHF a monthly cost which gives you 150 MB a month?

I'm looking for a prepaid card with data although most providers seem to charge per MB which isn't really helpful when I'm only receiving emails and chat messages of a few kb per message.

(First post on the forum, although I've read lot's of helpful threads while preparing moving to Switzerland (I arrived last week)).

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

You activate it by sending a surf150 in a text to a number I use the 500mb a month for 12chf the speed is pretty good.

If I use the 500mb in less than a month they just take another 12chf (not that I have)

If you don't use it all after 30 days you lose it and start afresh with another 500mb for 12chf just like you would if you had a contract.

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

Excellent, I bought a sim card today (they are half price at mobilezone atm (9.95 for a sim card with 20 CHF on it). And I think the 150 mb might even be enough for me since I have wifi at home and at work.

Re: Mobile Internet with prepaid... finally yes!

At the moment the cheapest way to get mobile internet is OK.- prepaid from Kiosk. For 15 CHF you get 30 CHF credit (until 14.07) and 1GB packet costs 15 CHF. I have bought a few starters and I am using them for my iPad. The only pain is to cut your sim card to micro sim format and every time when you need new data bundle you need a phone to send sms.

I'd say 0.10 CHF/MB, but you should try and see to be 100% sure.
It looks like this is the standard cost: http://www.coop.ch/pb/site/mobile/no...Lfr/index.html
"Cette offre est limitée à un volume de données de 300 Mo/mois. Chaque Mo supplémentaire est facturé CHF 0.10."
