North American Sports Network

For those interested in US sports, NASN is available at 28e (same position as ITV BBC and Sky) in the clear.

You CANNOT get this with a Sky box. CANNOT. NOT POSSIBLE. DON'T ASK HOW

But for those with "real" systems, tune into 11475v, Signal rate of 3151, FEC 3/4 and you should find something labelled GCUK4.

I have no idea how long it'll be up there for free mind you

Re: North American Sports Network

Hi Lob (or anyone else who can help),
I just discovered this old thread; do you know whether you can still receive NASN via satellite? If so, then I have one more question: Is it the UK version of NASN or the version that the rest of Europe gets? The difference is in what they show on Sunday evenings: the UK version has ice hockey then basketball but the version for the rest of Europe has NFL football on from 7pm to 1am on Sunday evenings, the latter one is obviously the one I want (if you're intererested in NFL football, then read this thread to hear about the isssues that I've had trying to receive this). If I can get the right version of this channel then I might jump into the satellite TV crowd

It doesn't need to be free - I'm quite happy to pay for NASN, I just haven't found a satellite or cable provider that can give it to me (except for the UK version through Sky, which is not worth it). I guess I hadn't found this thread until now because I had only been searching for terms such as NFL / American football, but this post should fix that problem.

PS. Thanks for all of the satellite TV advice that you've given on this forum - your knowledge is truly impressive.

the feed I referenced is gone but I do believe it was the European version.

You can get it through cablecom digital sports package.

Re: North American Sports Network

Thanks Lob, but as I said in the thread that I linked to in my previous post [repeat of link], although we can get cable TV through Cablecom in my part of the country, NASN is not part of their offering here. Some of the staff that I spoke to at Cablecom seem to have conflicting opinions regarding this, but in the end they could not provide it to me and so I sent back their digital box. Our local cable provider in Lausanne is called "CityCable", and it appears that if the channel that you want is not listed on the pdf that you can get from them by clicking on "Fréquences TV & radio" on this page then neither citycable nor cablecom can offer you the channel .

I've also written to NASN asking them if there are any other options open to me, and recommend that they update their info regarding obtaining the channel in Switzerland to state that it is not available in the French-speaking part of the country. However, they have not responded to me nor have they updated the info on their site. I've also asked the folks at the CityCable office in Lausanne to add this channel to their offering, but they did not seem very happy about receiving suggestions like this from potential customers.

So as far as I'm aware, the non-UK version of NASN is not available on satellite anywhere, and since I can't get it through my cable connection then I'm out of luck . Oh well, at least I get to listen to the NFL games online, and if I'm feeling richer next year then maybe I'll opt for the overpriced option of watching the games online.

Re: North American Sports Network

I agree, cablecom's website definitely makes it look like it is available, even when I enter my postal code it continue to say so. However, I believe this is how they hooked me to try it last year, only to find out after ordering it, setting it up, and making several phone calls to them that they couldn't actually give me NASN. I therefore returned their box and now I have very little faith in the info on their website.

Since we don't even currently own a TV, it would be very expensive to order their digital box to give it another try because this would require purchasing a TV. I also don't believe anything that cablecom tells me over the phone regarding channel availability, because last year every person I talked to at cablecom told me something different.
Is their anyone on this forum living in Suisse Romande (french-speaking Switzerland), or even in Lausanne, that is actually able to receive NASN through cablecom??? That is now the only evidence that I will listen to.

Sorry for the bitter tone of this message, but I've been unsuccessfully trying to solve this problem for 14 months.

Re: North American Sports Network

NASN is now available in the Romandie. I can confirm that I have it in the Lausanne area. I used to check their website every couple months, and first noticed it was offered about a month ago.

FYI, NASN was never listed as available in the Romandie on the cablecom website (at least when I checked). If you click on TV/Radio from their front page, it automatically takes you to the German region. You have to select "digital tv Romandie" on the left side of the page to see what is available for our region. It's not at all obvious, but hopefully that will prevent further confusion.

Also, just so you know, I cannot get dual language broadcasts on the Swiss channels on digital cable. I have to switch back to analog for that.

Re: North American Sports Network

Thanks a lot for the info, wheels.

Given that the NFL playoffs have already started, I think that I'll wait till next Fall to sign up for Cablecom now.

Re: North American Sports Network

If you can get the Austrian station ORF1, here's the NFL Playoffs schedule they showed late last night/this morning (during the Dallas-Seattle game):
  • 13-Jan 1:15 - 5:30
  • 21-Jan 0:15 - 6:00
  • 04-Feb 23:40 - 04:00

Re: North American Sports Network

I'm currently watching the NFL playoff games online using the TVU player. They don't have NBC, so I missed yesterdays games, but I've had minimal problems watching Fox and CBS this evening.

Go Colts!
