A simple solution could be to add the network manually and see if it works. if you are on windows... I think you go to network connections and then where you see the list of networks.. you add a new one. Since you know the SSID and password, this shouldn't be a problem.

What happened and suddenly the connection was lost ? Were you online with the new laptop and you powered up the other one that you have and then you lost connection ?

Does your Router has a maximum MAC-Address filter for hacking protection ?

Also the highest frequency channels (example 13) usually are "quiet" and easier for your systems to talk to each other. Can you program your Laptop and router to propagate to channel 13 ?

What did Swisscom told you about ?

Re: laptop not detecting wireless signal..what to do

Have you tried to restart both router and laptop at the same time ?

Do you know how to reset your router and set it up again ?

have you tried to remove the network and then search for it again ?

You could also try to remove the wireless card from the device manager, and add it again.

As vossgui suggested, the setting you look for would be "wireless g protected" or something similar.

Doc.

Re: laptop not detecting wireless signal..what to do

Try this tool:
http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/
It should detect everything, even if hidden etc, and report which channel Your network is on.
Then write here or paste a screenshot of the results, it will be easier to help with more info.

Ahh can you remove the connection and let windows detect it again? and if windows can't detect it, then you add it manually. At times what happens is, if someone updates the encryption e.g. changing from WPA to WPA2, your software might not be able to update it automatically - this happened a few days back with my flatemate who had the Intel wireless thingie... or even windows can act stupid at times.... so you might want to remove the connection completely and try adding it again.
