Swisscom Box-USB port on front

Hello, I noticed there is a USB port in front of the box. I tried putting a video file on my usb drive and plugging it into the box. But, there doesn't seem to be a way to read off the usb drive.

What's the port for? Is it for the company's use to update the software? Because, why is on the front of the box and not behind it then?

Thanks

Re: Swisscom Box-USB port on front

Its there so you can plug in a USB novelty toy near to your TV.

For example during the festive season I dust off my USB powered Christmas tree (it changes colours!) and place it !!blam!! ontop of the STB. Swisscom are the bleeding edge innovators in this field.

Re: Swisscom Box-USB port on front

Hmm... I wonder if there is some special TV "paraphrenelia" that I haven't heard of that would use that usb port. Any ideas?

Well, it's nice to know I can charge my ipod there. I was really hoping it would read any video files on a usb drive.

Thanks

Re: Swisscom Box-USB port on front

Hi all,
Unfortunately the USB ports are there for technical maintenance, whenever a technical support is required, and not like the 99% of those boxes on the market being able to interact with any external memory source.

Really a pity, isn't it?

Swisscom box - whats the USB for?

Anybody know what function the USB port on the front of the Swisscom TV box has? It is possible (easily) to take off the recorded shows?

Yeah, thanks -not really though unless I missed something. Saw these and they didn't seem to definitively answer the question - apart from one one-off poster saying that it is for technical maintenance.

Didn't sound right to me as all updates etc are done through the external connection, and so wouldn't need such an obvious USB port. And certainly didn't answer whether anything is downloadable. Was interested to know if a PC would read it as an external drive, stuff like that.

Don't have the balls to try it myself and risk losing the archives though

TV wont read it im afraid. Swisscom is Microsoft IPTV and the decoding is proprietry and they dont release it. Nothing would make me happier than being able to pipe the Bluewin via my PC for some nicer interface like XBMC but its a non starter.

good question - on site engineer driver updates perhaps. Ive not done any serious reading on the device im afraid the only bit I do know is they done open their protocol so you cant pipe it via a PC or proxy the signal.
