Need tips on Nintendo Wii

I am seriously considering buying a Nintendo Wii. I checked the website ans the in store, but still have following doubts:

1) Does it ship with 1 remote or two? i.e off the pack can two people play it without buying any additional accessories/ remote?

2) I understand that Wii sports comes free with the box. Does any one have experience with wii sports? How much extra does that cost?

3) Are all games negotiable with the standard remote? Do I need to but stuff like racquet remote, cart wheel etc additionally or not?

Would much appreciate tips from people who have gone the Wii way recently
Thanks!

Re: Need tips on Ninteno Wii

1) Normally 1 remote. We bought a 2nd separately
2) Wii sports is fun, but limited. Doesn't cost any extra, comes with the Wii (as you pointed out )
3) All games are fine with the remote as is. Racquets, wheels are optional (and largely unnecessary)

Re: Need tips on Nintendo Wii

When buying a second remote, get the one with the 'wii play' game included.

Re: Need tips on Nintendo Wii

Best investment we made was a recharging pack for the two remotes (one which we had to buy as an extra). Costs around Sfr. 50 but it means that we don't ever have to be without batteries.

We also went and got a gun which we can either use as a cross bow (my wife would have made a great Robin Hood) or for various weapons in Call of Duty etc etc.

Re: Need tips on Nintendo Wii

I have wii fit. used it 2-3 times a week for the first few weeks and now it's gathering dust. Fun, but just not my think.

Incidentally, Nil has asked this before - wii fit is discussed over on this thread

Re: Need tips on Nintendo Wii

One recommendation...........Call of Duty 4 modern warfare "reflex". fantastic game!! great online multiplayer and addictive single player gameplay.

Also you can't go wrong with Mario Kart. Generally buying games online is the cheapest option and always read the game box in store to check if its only in German (if that would be a problem for you).

Some games require the "Nunchuk" controller part as well as the Wii remote.
Examples off the top of my head: Legenda of Zelda: Twilight princess, Rune Factory: Frontier

Also my Wii Fit was gathering dust after a few weeks..

Re: Need tips on Nintendo Wii

Hi
Hope you don't mind a thread hijack but as part of the deal to ease the kids into a move to CH I have promised them a Wii. The question is should I buy it here in the uk (would it be much cheaper? but would I still be able to use it easily in CH?) Or is it best to wait until we arrive.
Sorry I am a complete gaming and techno dunce.
TIA
A x

I would wait until you're in CH. The difference is not unsurmountable but the mains plugs are different here. Also, wouldn't it be a nice go-explore-the-city trip for you and your kids to go buy the wii once you've arrived here ?

Re: Need tips on Nintendo Wii

I am a Wii fan and play a lot. I have not met any game that did not work with the standard remote, some might requite the nunchuck (one comes with the console, I believe).

You do not need any wheels for example for MarioKart, the wheel is a simple piece of plastic in which you put the normal controller. I suggest you to buy a second controller plus nun-chuck and if it is in the budget, a balance board. I have a classic controller as well, which was frankly a waste of money. I like the balance board and games that work with it. If you want to buy one extra game, go for "Rayman's raving rabbids 2" or "Rayman's raving rabbids TV party"... it is great to play around with all the functionalities of the Wii.

I'd say wait until you get to Switzerland too. You don't need to worry about the machines language as you can switch to English (although be careful about the games you buy in Swiss stores as many are German only, generally not the pure nintendo games like mario kart or super mario brothers etc).
That said check out the prices on www.toppreise.ch as its definitely going to be cheaper than in any store.

Re: Need tips on Nintendo Wii

Wii Sports resort is great, but you need to get the extra motion plus adapter for the controller, and if you want to play with someone else the second controller will need it too. That was a real bugger last time I wanted to play with someone else but the second controller didn't have the motion control adapter.

Re: Need tips on Nintendo Wii

Bought the Wii on friday--played thru the weekend--love it. Made the mistake of not going for the Wii sports+Sports resort combo. I think i will buy sports resort seperately now!

Thanks all for the tips

Re: Need tips on Nintendo Wii

If buying Wii sports resort, go to Digitec. They are selling it for 39 CHF, where it's 69 CHF pretty much everywhere else.

I've been meaning to get it myself - just haven't been near digitec in awhile

Anyone tried Blazing Angels for the Wii? I fancy a bit of WW2 Wii flight Sim for $hits and giggles.
