Can I have two prepaid SIM cards?

I'd like to take advantage of Lebara's great international rates for calling back to the US, but there are much better deals for calls within CH. Is there anything keeping me from having one SIM card for everyday use and also a Lebara SIM that I can swap in when I want to call home?

Well, the only thing I can think of is laziness, unless you have one of the mobile phones that accept two sim cards at the same time.

You can have as many simm cards as you like provided your mobile phone is not locked to one which you can have locked anyway.

Re: Can I have two prepaid SIM cards?

I wish that Apple would give us a second sim card slot in a future iPhone. There were a few cell phones in the late 90s that had two slots, very useful for business and personal accounts. So many people carry 2 phones with them these days, what a hassle!

There are plenty of "dual sim" phones around these days as well.
Digitec has some models on offer, you have to search for "dual sim", most of them Samsungs: http://digitec.ch/

They are particularly popular in Asia where employers do not seem to give any allowance for private calls. Unfortunatley, they are not really marketed here and the iPhone is probably the last one you will see with that feature: Apple was the first to negotiate a revenue share with operators. So they are the only hardware manufacturer that has actually an interest in the SIM card used by the user. Giving the user the opportunity to make less revenue by using lebara for international calls or whoever is the cheapest for data is directly against Apple's own financial interest.

If you ever travel to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) there is a shop in the KLCC (Twin Towers) that sells a device for most phones that plugs into you single SIM slot and then creates 2 SIM slots. The device is normally mounted on a replacement back cover for your phone model. They are not expensive, approximately 15 CHF!

Not sure what creative idea they may have come up with for the i-phone but I am sure they will have come up with something!

Excellent. Thanks for the info. I figured it would be ok, but you never know what random things might be illegal in CH
