Suggestions for an HD TV (for 400~600 S.Fr.)

Hi all,
with the world cup fever on, I am thinking of buying an HD TV. My budget is something between 400~600 S.Fr. I am so confused when I go to interdiscount or Migros to select a good one. So, do you have any suggestions for a good one?

Re: Suggestions for an HD TV (for 400~600 S.Fr.)

I don't know what size screen you're looking for, but your price range pretty much limits you to 32". There's the off chance of a 37" TV being on sale for 599, but it's a long shot.

Here are the cheapest 32" inch LCDs, in order of price:

http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?k3=700&manu=&o=pa

You can ignore the first 10 or so because they aren't full-HD. The first Full-HD is this one:

http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?a=...=1&ld=all&zip=

A store in Oftringen has it for 498 CHF as an in-store pick-up price (you have to order it online first and choose pick-up). Your location suggests that you're also in Aargau, so if you don't mind a little drive, it might be worth it for this bargain.

That's what I'd do, anyway.

Edit: Here's the product's page on the store site: http://www.satdiscount.ch/start/pd735634739.htm?defaultVariants={EOL}&categoryId=4 7

Go with what Russkov says although IMO you won't notice the difference between half HD (720 lines) and full HD (1080 lines) on a 32 inch anyway. I would say the brand and technology is as important. IMO you've picked a bad price range since for 130 (729chf) more you can get this
Sony KDL-40EX402, 40" LCD TV, FullHD, USB, DVB-T/C from digitec, which I think is far and away better than 30 inch for watching football.

Thanks everyone. ( where is the thank you button by the way? )
I can higher a bit my price range to 700 if it gets me a bigger and bitter TV.
I just want a good deal and really an HD tv. Some in the stores do not look at all like HD TV although they claim they are...but then again I am no expert in this!!

I followed the lead I got from this forum and went to Saturn electronics in Volketswil, they had a huge range, best I have seen so far...They also have a tie in with swiss com that takes 200 chuffs of the price..problem is now that I am watching too much tv

Re: Suggestions for an HD TV (for 400~600 S.Fr.)

i just got lucky at using 10% off at Migros got a 37" Samsung LCD LED (the ultra thin one) - ok still out of your price range - but 799chf... regularly 888chf

now this TV is usually 1080chf cheapest at digitec.ch so 888chf is still a good price

maybe worth saving a little bit more?

edit: seems they're sold out - sorry

TVs in stores often look bad because they attach them to non-HD sources or to HD with non-HD cables. From the moment the source is HD and the TV is set up properly, I don't think there's that much of a difference between a 730 franc Sony (like the one economisto posted) and a high-end LED. It's basically paying more than twice as much for the quality to go from 8 to 10.

What are planning to use it for? Cable TV? Blu-Ray? Gaming?

Who is your TV provider? Does your set-top box have an HDMI connection? If you still have an old standard-definition set-top box, don't expect to get HD quality images.

If you're ready to up your price to 729, the one economisto posted is good. They also have it at Microspot for 725 with free shipping. http://www.microspot.ch/microspot/pr...HD_/detail.jsf

Some people have had problems with Microspot, but I've already ordered a TV from them and didn't have any problems.

There is an offer on Sony KDL series TVs in media markt... I suggest you could check them first for cheap deal... Otherwise digitec and the model mentioned above is the best...

Re: Suggestions for an HD TV (for 400~600 S.Fr.)

Well, you have all the info you'll need in this thread.

A good 32-inch TV can be found for 498, and a good 40-inch TV can be found for 725. Up to you.

Just a final thing, when you do make the jump to HD, don't waste money on expensive "high-end" HDMI cables. They are the biggest rip-off and are all the same. Get the cheapest ones you can, they usually have generic ones on sale at MediaMarkt, and even cheaper online.

Re: Suggestions for an HD TV (for 400~600 S.Fr.)

Hi,

I have a similar requirement to the OP. Am in the market for a HDTV and the maximum budget is upto 750 CHF. TV will be used mainly for watching HD channels and DVDs/Blu-Ray movies (I have a laptop with a Blu Ray drive and an HDMI output).

My Cablecom set top box also has an HDMI output.

Don't have any preferences for brands, just want to watch the best quality picture at the price that I mentioned above and taking into account the above parameters.

Any advice on this would be highly appreciated. If there are other parameters that I should be considering, please let me know.

Thanks for your time.

Sure, thanks Rich. Just wanted to confirm whether there were other good models which could also be checked.

The Sony does fit into all my requirements and I believe Migros has an additional 10% off on its list price (799 CHF) today (due to the Spanish fiesta).

Re: Suggestions for an HD TV (for 400~600 S.Fr.)

We wanted a 40' or higher Full HD and went to all the top electronic places around. (Media Markt, Interdiscount, Migros Electronics...etc.) Amazingly enough, we found ours priced at 899 CHF for a 42' Full HD Phillips (Prattln Conforama). Still to this day prices are generally cheaper there for electronics than the rest of the stores we went to. Still don't know why but just a thought to keep in mind if you decide to go searching for a good deal!

Conforama has a bad rap because their furniture is crap, but man, do they often have amazing prices on electronics.

Why are TVs so damn cheap in Aargau. The Sony's 715 CHF in-store at Soundgarden in Lenzburg: http://www.soundgarden.ch/product_in...ts_id=61845493
