| | | BBC Radio 4 - Cablecom
Has anyone else noticed that BBC Radio 4 disappeared from Cablecom analogue (Basel)? Seems to have happened on 20 June 2007. |

I notice that yesterday (In Riehen) - It appears to have been replaced with some English Classic station (Radio 3?). The website still shows it listed: http://www.cablecom.ch/en/index/send...ord=4125#Radio
I have phoned some feedback via (but lady on phone didn't know of any changes etc - suggest you phone also): https://service.cablecom.ch/scp/cons...ref=cablecomtv

Yes I've also contacted Cablecom. But no response yet.
The music that is playing is from the BBC TV "Teletext" Pictures of Britain!

I just called my wife - apparently she noticed the same thing; that R4 has been replaced by some music.
Have just sent a query through the Cablecom Complaints-down-a-black-hole Webpage.
Cheers,
Nick

You're lucky to get Radio 4 on Cablecom - It isn't available on analogue in Zurich - but is online at this rather odd URL: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/mainf...adio4.shtml?fm |

I reckon it's an anti Anglo-Saxon conspiracy by the Swiss....it will be replaced by a channel broadcasting the utterances of Blocher.

I checked late last night - still no R4. I send a query via the Cablecom website. Have also emailed their media relations address. Rudolf Fischer is the CEO. Betreff:BBC Radio 4 Datum:22.6.2007 09:32:39 An:media.relations@cablecom.ch Cc:rudolf.fischer@cablecom.ch Dear Sir or Madam, It has come to the attention of the English speaking community in Basel that BBC Radio 4 on the 88MHz frequency of the cablecom analog radio service has been replaced by a rolling classical music broadcast. Is this by accident, or is there a deliberate policy to discontinue the BBC Radio 4 service? I can see no announcement on the Cablecom website. BBC Radio 4 is a unique radio channel providing a diversity of cultural programmes such as drama, science, social issues, political debate, current affairs analysis etc which are highly valued among the English-speaking expat community in Basel. It will be a retrograde step for Cablecom to remove BBC Radio 4 from the Basel station list. I have already contacted Cablecom via the "Contact" webpage on this matter and have had no response. Kind regards, ... |

It's not just cablecom, my R4 , R2 and World service have disappeared from my Satellite reception. Probably means that the Beeb have changed the frequency so has to be retuned.

Cheers,
Nick | | | | | Or even cheaper get a Griffin Rocket http://www.amazon.co.uk/Griffin-4000...514662&sr=1-16
same principle as an itrip but plugs into your computer, you can then broadcast internet radio to any radio in your house via an empty FM frequency, I've had one for some time now and its good to listen to five live on the bedside clock radio.
Nick.

I too have lost my beloved BBC Radio 4 from my satellite receiver. (Wed 20th June 2007)
My guess is that all you need to do is find out the new frequencies and then inform Cablecom.
I'll try a rescan to see if they have moved.

Found some more information on the BBC reception site, ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/news/index.shtml#freesat), the radio channels via sat were moved in the last months and it warns that if you don't retune your box (not a skybox, just other receivers) that you would lose the channels - this is now the case via cablecom in Basel. from the current FAQs on the beeb site : Why can I no longer receive some BBC radio stations via satellite? Some BBC radio stations on satellite have moved their location. If you have a Sky satellite receiver you need do nothing, but if you have a 'free to air' type receiver you will have to make the changes manually, otherwise you will eventually lose the stations. You can find details on this page - channels with changes are marked. |

| | | Re: BBC Radio 4 dead on Cablecom and Astra 2
Wierd, but all BBC radio stations except useless Radio 1 have also stopped working via satellite. They all broadcast via Astra 2 (including Radio1) which makes it even stranger. Am following the link supplied by Pat to try and reactivate.
