I'll try on Vista when I get home tonight. But I'd think it'd work since Vista is in the middle of XP and Win7. | | | | | Finally was able to try it on my Vista machine and it works. And the CCSID is the same as the Win7 machine.
I've heard that excesses of p0rn featuring farm animals causes the command not work. Just sayin'...

well I think why string them along. It's like the cat playing with the mouse. Just dont forget that the people on the line are maybe earning a buck a day( if that). And we want to play with their misfortune-also a bit sick!

Maybe we should apply the same logic with drug dealers... They also serve a market with a demand, face competition, need to purchase their products and have logistics issues with getting the heroine/cocaine supply chains up and running, but hey, they just try to make a few bucks
The more of the scammers time we can waste, the less time they have to scam people whose IT knowledge is too low to see through it.

Did I say let them scam people. Why not try to talk to them -person to person-instead of playing childrens games. | Quote: | | | | | So letting them scam innocent people is fine, as they after all do some kind of "work" ?

Anything that minimises their profits and impact must be a good thing.
And as for feeling sympathy with the droids because they're not paid very well - would you be so sympathetic with someone burgling your house and not getting very much for the goods he stole from you and sold on?

Why not try to talk to them -person to person-instead of playing childrens games. | | | | | Because after the 10th call within a few days I'm not in the mood to talk to them at all! It's bordering on harrassment and if I could find out the number I'd try and report it to someone. Unfortunately, it either comes up as unavailable or as 00210.
Is there anyone in Switzerland you can complain to about this sort of thing? I looked at Swisscom's website, but there's not a thing there that would be of any use. | | This user would like to thank Medea Fleecestealer for this useful post: | |

I doubt anyone here would have jurisdiction. And even if they did, stopping people from making calls like this would probably be below their radar.

I doubt there is any legal action that could be taken against such calls.
Not even Microsoft Security experts have a magical solution for it, besides basically ignoring them (see article).
One probably need to spread the word though, especially between eldery people and children. They tend to be easy targets!

| | | Reply to "Windows Support Calls".
This was an attempted reply to "Windows Support" calls
Maybe merge this with that thread? | Quote: | | | | | when I am working at home I receive every a few days calls from an unidentified number.
The callers are Indian phone operators that are probably doing telemarketing from a call center in India.
They tell me they are from the Windows Support help desk and that my computer has a virus that they could detect, so they are offering their service to clean it up. | | | | | I got a call from these people a couple of weeks ago. The incoming number was something like 0210 (I have it written down at home).
I did not think it was telemarketing, as the male Indian-sounding person wanted me to sit down at my Windows PC and start to execute some keystrokes. I thought it was a phishing attack.
He said they had been alerted to some malware on my PC.
I asked which product had alerted them. He said something like "Windows Services". I asked him to tell me the time stamp of the alert (I had not switched on my PC for a couple of weeks, and then it was not switched on in Switzerland). I also asked him to tell me the version of Windows that they thought I was running. I also told him that I usually use a Mac.
My call was then escalated to a female with an Indian-sounding accent. I repeated my questions about time stamps, what product alerted them as I don't subscribe to anything like this, etc.
It was when I said something like: "The reason I am asking these questions is becuase I beleive I am the subject of a Phishing attack." I was asked to explain what I meant. As I did so, the line went dead.
I then called my telephone company, and I was told thanks for the indformation. If it hapopens again, try blocking the call number and/ or notify the police.
They called a few times since that day, but when I picked up there was only silence.

I installed this on my IP PBX system as an extension in readiness for them on my Aussie number http://itslenny.com/
I think it uses some sort of voice recognition because he answers only after you talk to him! Link1 Link2 Do not do this!

I posted this in a different thread. These guys have been calling me for months. It is most definitely harassment. They don't give up.

| | | Re: Computer Support Scam
I have received several calls from them so far this week. On the 7th or 8th attempt feeling a little bored, I decided to answer and have some fun with them...
Indian guy: Is your PC on?
Me: No
IG: Can you turn it on?
Me: No
IG: Why not?
Me: I don't have a PC I have a MAC.
IG: OK turn it on.
Me: OK then - several minutes later after the kettle had boiled and I'd made a cuppa. It's on now!
IG: OK, can you log on to this website www.ammyy.com
Me: Sorry, I can't get into the site I have an error message.
IG: Try again.
Me: Still can't get in, I have another error message.
IG: Oh madam this is very, very serious. What does the message say?
Me: Not sure... I'll spell it to you... F.*.C.K.O.F.F.
The guy still didn't get that I was stringing him along and I continued to toy with him for about half an hour, until I got bored and put the phone down. |

I'd love to get one call like that and listen to their reaction when I tell them I'm not using Windows but Linux.
Guess they'll think I'm an alien or something.

"Madam we are sorry to inform you there is a problem with your windows pragramme"
"How did you find that out?"
"I got a notification from your computer"
"Now that's interesting, I'm using ubuntu..."

Dangit, just had my first call from these scammers, completely forgot my plan to keep them on the line as long as possible. The conversation went
'Hello, my name is Stephen I am calling from Microsoft'
'Yeah?, bollocks, f**k off'
Click

| | | Re: Computer Support Scam
I've had these guys call several times. I normally ask if they have family, wife, kids etc. This confuses them and they seem to answer honestly. Then I ask them if their family are proud of what they do for a living. Then I describe what they really do for a living. ie. scam and steal money from vulnerable people. This makes them really mad but at least it gets to their conscience just a little.
