Re: "Microsoft" are at it again!

I've had loads of those calls in the last two days.

I started just hanging up but they kept ringing back so I started being incredibly abusive and they stopped phoning.

Re: "Microsoft" are at it again!

What would really wind them up is playing along with it "oh no, but I have all my bank info on my computer" then being too stupid to find the information they want. *Then* be abusive.

They started again here too.

I just left the phone off the hook.

Last time I told them I didn't have a computer.

Haha - ask about their underwear - that should work too.

Re: "Microsoft" are at it again!

OH kept one on the line for over 15 minutes one day a couple of weeks ago, mainly by telling him that he would check his Windows Event Viewer only after the porn video he was currently uploading was finished.

At another point the fake technician asked him to right-click on something, and OH spent another five minutes debating the tech about whether, since he was left-handed, he should click on the right or left side of the mouse.

It was a win/win -- free entertainment that occupied the tech for a few minutes that he might otherwise be able to access someone who might possibly fall for the scam.

Re: "Microsoft" are at it again!

Some time ago, on another board, a regular cut and pasted a very lengthy e-mail conversation he had with a Nigerian church minister who had e-mailed him and was collecting for something or other. After very large sums of money. The guy got the 'minister' into a philosophical and ecumenical discussion, always just moments away from being convinced to part with a very large sum.

It was done with no little degree of genius. One of the funniest things I've read on the web.

Sometimes the person calling you is a victim of the scam - believing that they actually do work for Microsoft, and that they'll be paid at the end of the week/month...

Well I think these people simply get paid for the amount of time they keep you on the computer!

Re: "Microsoft" are at it again!

I am never bothered by junk calls from anybody. All my calls go to the answering machine. I pick up the phone if somebody starts to leave a message.

Call me and see for yourself.

After having many conversations with these people, I don't believe that for a second.

P.S. They always hang up when I pass the phone to my three year old.

Re: Computer Support Scam

I had these jokers call me today and show how doppy they are they even identify themselves as windows support. What company is windows is the first flaw in their scam.

Indian voice on phone and the poor bugger got me so my greeting was "I guess you want to install a virus on my computer and then charge my credit card to remove it, bugger off please"

Before I even managed to say "bugger off" the phone went clung at the other end as the caller reailised oh shit this person knows what our scam is better hang up before I have to explain my call.

I was actually disappointed I didnt string the idiot along for a while and then tell him that my windows to the house were actually all clean and do not have any virus since the winter has killed any viruses on my windows and that if I want my microsoft windows fixed I will call Microsoft not windows.

Long time scam this one but warning they are still out there and trying their best to rip people off

Re: Computer Support Scam

We had a call from someone this week claiming to be from IBM saying we had a problem with our PC. We said no we don't, she said yes you do, and we hung up. Not a PC in sight on our household as we are all MAC users.

To string these people along is just a waste of my time. I have better things to do.
