Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

Here is the law.
http://www.admin.ch/ch/f/rs/784_401/a63.html

Basically, everyone pays unless you are a Federal worker, only live in Switzerland under 90 days, a diplomat, or similar person.

Write an email to these people if you disagree:

http://www.billag.ch/web/fr/fragen_u...en/gesetz.html

Here is an on-line exoneration form.

I am trouble listening to the radio at home. The dog next door keeps barking loudly making it difficult to hear clearly.

Do I still need to pay Billag?

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

I was told that if you disconnect the aerial from the back of the car Radio, this would be enough.

Having a blown fuse or removing the fuse disables the system which means if it can also play CD's / tapes, you loose those features too.

Your question has been answered earlier in the thread:

Quote:
Equipment is deemed to be able to receive if it can be made ready to receive by a simple action. Equipment with which the reception of programmes is technically not possible is not subject to the obligation to register and pay fees..
I would say that replacing a fuse was a simple action, wouldn't you?

If it's a car Radio, and the fuse is located at the back of the radio, then this could be a nightmare to do. Modern dashes make getting to the stereo a preverbial pain in the A....

However, all this is supposed to be in the context of paying Billag.

If you told the Billag official that yes, you did have a car radio but the fuse had blown so could you be excused payment, do you think he would say:

a.) It's a car Radio, and the fuse is located at the back of the radio, then this could be a nightmare to do. Modern dashes make getting to the stereo a preverbial pain in the A..so you don't need to pay.

b.) You still have to pay. Change the fuse.

I get the impression that Naive wants to get out of paying (but I could be wrong...)

Right, first of all, I am female - which I enjoy to the full - and am quite prepared to admit that when it comes to the technical stuff like programming the TV, setting up Internet, well, that's really what men are for... and a few other things not worth mentioning really here.
Anyway, we have Internet from swisscom and as far as I can see (I pay the bills - I can manage that much) the TV License has been included in this bill. Could I be imagining things or could that truly be the case??

Billag bills come from Billag only. I've posted the prices somewhere in the thread.

There is little to add to this thread now about the rules, what we need now are experiences from users who partially or fully wanted to deregister.

Yep. This is to let you all know that I just cancelled my TV Billag after damaging the tuner chip in my TV beyond repair. I have remains of the chip and photos of the disassembled TV to show to Billag inspectors. I'll let you know guys of any development with them.

I guess because of data privacy the billag does not know when some is moving in. I'm not sure though...

Billag uses numerous tricks. They comb the phone directory, and they also send people from door to door to read name tags and then, I assume, cross check this with their database. I have observed people writing down names off letterboxes in my building several times and even photographed them doing so, which was a far more effective way of making them leave the premises than politely asking them to explain themselves (they ignored me and my polite requests until they saw my camera).

De-soldering the tuner, stamping on it and then have remains to show should surely satisfy the most dilligent visiting Billag official.
You've obviously never had to deal with such an individual. Their pedantry and stupidity knows no limits. My present policy is to fight back with the same methods.

Sadly, Billag maintains that you have to pay the license fee even if you have no TV/Radio etc at home or in your car IF you have a computer...I would assume that since you posted on the English Forum you do have one, and so you are going to have to pay! I have never heard of anyone getting around this and though I feel the entire "redevance" is highly unjustified and indeed a stealth tax I don't see how you can.

On the bright side, questions were raised in the Federal Parliament about Billag just this week and it is possible that there might be a review of the system. This was in conjunction with Sarko banning publicity on the French TV channels.

On peut toujours espérer...!

Billag employers freelancers! They get a bounty for each detected unlicensed household. So they are very motivated to discover infringement.

If broadcasters are banned/restricted from advertising, then they need license fees from viewers/hearers. How else to finance broadcasting?

Billag might get a lot more co-operation if that's how they presented their case, instead of promoting the idea of fear of getting caught for not paying.

Take a look at any recent Billag advert on TV and you will see what I mean.

Billag is only a "billing" collection agency. They do not set policy.

The Government sets policy and should explain why citizens pay for getting radio and TV. But the Government is confused, apparently.

No use shooting the Billag messenger!

As consumers we have 4 choices to finance broadcasting:
1. Advertising
2. Fees
3. Taxes
4. Charitable contributions?

None of the above sounds good. We can as well stick with the present scheme of fees + advertising. Seems to work, except for a few hermits without radio and TV.

More taxes, anyone?

I have a friend that got off!! Man knocked on her door, saw her computer (she has no TV or radio anywhere) and sent her a bill. She wrote in and said she had no media receiving programs on her computer and they let her off. I'll ask her for more details.

If broadcasters think they have anything to say, they should find sponsors willing to cover the costs, be they donors, subscribers or advertisers. If people don't want to sponsor them, they should be asking themselves why not. If they think fear and repression are the answer, other people should be asking whether it isn't time to change the broadcasters.
