Swisscom TV Speed Check HDTV

One can check before getting Swisscom TV to see whether HD will work. I checked giving the telefone number and it said everything was OK for HD.

I ordered Swisscom TV Plus ( with HD ) on this basis. Recieved the Settop Box and modem. After connecting the modem and checking whether my speed was enough they say then that its not.

Strange politic they have at Swisscom!!

And then you'll find even if it was OK, you cannot watch 2 x HD channels on 2 x TVs, or even have good internet performance

Because the Swisscom VDSL does not offer much bandwidth (max 20Mbps) and because HDTV sucks so much, you run into a bandwidth bottle neck real real quick.

I've seen it myself: even on a good line, you cannot have 2 x HDTV + good internet, just doesn't work.

Re: Swisscom TV Speed Check HDTV

Well let's see. At the moment I have 5000 Abo and no problems with Internet but thats also without HD. I hope that Swisscom can improve my speed to 20000. On Friday they install a Digital Plug and change the wiring. I only have one TV so that's not a problem.

Very true. I have Swisscom TV and WWZ TV (cable TV) so I could make side-by-side comparisons. I've never been 100% happy with the picture quality of Swisscom's TV (even the HDTV channels), grainy and unsharp (like watching a YouTube video at full screen). WWZ TV on the other hand has always had a much sharper image overall and with excellent (DVD like) HDTV channels.

Re: Swisscom TV Speed Check HDTV

A few years ago I cancelled my cablecom contract after being "sold" the Swisscom package.

But the phone line didn't work as promised (which means that I never even found out if the internet or TV worked). So Swisscom offered to return all my money and cancel the package despite the 12 months minumum contract thingie. They were quite friendly and apologetic about it.

So I called the cablecom hotline (that special number that you will only get with their confirmation of your contract cancellation, where they try to make you change your mind), and said that I wanted all those special deals that you get as a new customer if they wanted me to stay with them. They said ok....

Turn your TV on then do an internet speed test.

Then turn the TV off and do the same speed test

Compare the internet speed test results and report back

Re: Swisscom TV Speed Check HDTV

Beware when using this diagnostic. I just checked to see if Bluewin Plus is available on my line and it told me Bluewin isn't available at all on this line. I already have Bluewin and it works fine (just not plus)... FYI

Re: Swisscom TV Speed Check HDTV

Why should one beware when using this? It's a test that Swisscom makes and they should at least stand responsible for their own test! One buys their product on the basis of this test. Otherwise it's a case of false representation of their product. Would'nt you agree?
