Add to this the fear of not even finding a new apartment in time with our bloody "L" permits we got even though my husband has a permanent job and I am growing a nice big ulcer!
Sometimes apartments are available before the 1st of the month. Often I have been able to get keys earlier which alleviates some of the chaos. Even a few days early can make the difference. Moving locally is a big hassle and expensive.

If you have already rented an apartment here, trying to rent again shouldn't be so difficult even with an L. As long as you can get a good reference from your current landlord and haven't been given notice, you should be okay.
