It is in the interests of the Swiss Company employing you to apply through the Canton for a B Permit.
The company I work for used to get L Permits for sub contractors initially (especially non -EU citizens).
If they liked the guy the next permit was a B Permit, if not it was another L Permit or a worse, contract termination.
