What's really scary is that the crash doesn't look fatal at all. The famous "agony of defeat" sequence at the beginning of ABC's "Wide World of Sports" opening credits looks worse because the poor ski jumper (Vinko Bogstaj from Slovenia, at the time of the 1970 crash, Yugoslavia) keeps bouncing on and on. The bouncing must dissipate the energy of the fall. I'm sure the fact that Zoricic came to a sudden stop and did NOT bounce away is part of the reason why his crash was fatal.
