Sorry, but I don't see why someone should be staying on here if they no longer fulfil the conditions that they were admitted for. I have no problem with foreigners coming here to do a job, on the contrary, I believe that the Swiss economy benefits from the influx of skills and experience. But I do not see why they should expect to be able to stay on once the task for which they have been contracted for has finished.

I realise that may not be a very popular view here and no, I am not a SVP supporter (just in case anyone was wondering), I am however in favour of a reasonably controlled immigration policy.

If the OP has finished what they came to do then I guess it is time to move on. I hope that you enjoyed your stay here in Switzerland, that you were made to feel welcome, valued and appreciated. I hope that you will take with you some unforgettable memories and I wish you all the very best in your search for a new challenge (If it is here, then good for you, if elsewhere, good luck all the same).
Because he was not allowed to receive unemployment benefits even after 3,5 years of working, for the rest I agree what you wrote above..
