Exemption from compulsory health insurance

Hi, everybody! I am a new member of the forum and recently moved to Switzerland to attend a Ph.D. program in Zurich
Since I hold an Italian passport and I am still in education, as far as I understand I have the choice to apply for obtaining exemption from the compulsory health insurance. The trick is that, if I get ill, I have to pay the medical expenses with my money and then claim a refund from my birth country. In your opinion, considering that luckily I don't have health issues at all, is this a risk worth taking or not?
