Home Cinema solution - your input?

Hi all,

I've been thinking for a long time to renew my home cinema setup.

At the moment I have a lot of obsolete material, only two available HDMI ports at the telly and still a lot of optical fibre devices connecting to my 5.1 decoder. Resuming: a big mess of cables, remote controls, and different signal types: HDMI, Composite, etc...

My objective is to connect:
  • Media centre
  • PS3
  • Set-top box
  • Apple TV

all to a 7 year old 42" FullHD TV (only two HDMI) and have surround audio. I feel that this TV can work a few more years.

I've found several entry level AV receivers, and I've narrowed it down to the following model and speaker kit :
  • Pioneer VSX-922 + SoundWare XS 5.1 (actually both are a bundle at a known Swiss on-line retailer)

I chose this one because it is already 7.2 (I intend only to use 5.1, but you never know the future), upscaling from non-HDMI sources and 6x HDMI ports, besides DLNA and Airplay. Price wise, it seems quite attractive. Online reviews are mostly very positive, when when not very positive, they recommend very high end systems.

Do you have any other suggestion on a better system for the same money? I'm also having a little bit of difficulty checking what are the best cables. That's the problem of ordering on-line - you don't see if they will fit nicely under the rug and I'm afraid of buying some thick cables that will not fit nicely in my living room.

Any comments?
