Re: Where to retire?

I would be very careful about moving anywhere far away on retirement. I have seen many do this and end in disaster as they try to cope with starting all over again at an age when you simply no longer want to.

It's great to plan, but when you actually come to it your priorities may be very different and - as has been pointed out your financial situation may not be as rosy as planned in 20 years (sorry).

I retired a couple of years ago and moved from the Zurich conurbation to the Zuri Oberland. We now have a garden. We did ever so briefly consider the Teccino. But it was too far away from what has been the centre of our lives for the last 24 years.

My priorities were:

Nearness to friends & Swiss family
Not too difficult to reach family in the UK
Good healthcare
Ability to continue hobbies
Bigger garden
Low mortgage interest rate
Stability and safety

I think I would find Hong Kong hell on earth to retire to...
