He doesn't have to clear the sublet with the landlord. He just has to inform the landlord and do it on the up and up without a significant increase in the original rent.

It will work for a while if you keep your apartment (address), health insurance and paying your taxes here. But when you are paying taxes on an Australian salary, the gig will be up.

Why don't you just get the C permit and find another job here?
