using your DVR with a cablecom digital decoder

Hello this is my first post.

Back in the day when BBC was free I bought a Panasonic DVR (Digital Video Recorder) It's one of those DVD players that has a built in Hard Drive so you can record your programs on the HD instead of wasting DVD's.

Now that I have a Digital TV Subscription I was disapointed to find out that the decoder cannot be controlled externaly by the DVR. Sony VCR's had this technology back in 1990 so I thought it would still exist today.

What this meens is I cannot record digital programming with the timer on my DVR. Does this mean that I have to rent the DVR from cablecom to record shows or is there some other solution?

Another question, does cablecom sell decoder cards for media center computers? A few really nice ones just hit the market.
