Re: Insurance Coverage for Pregnancy and Birth

I have lived in Switzerland for about 9 months and have the basic insurance. I don't qualify for the private insurance unfortunately due to a history of cancer. I am now cancer free and my husband and I are hoping to start trying to conceive soon. I wanted to make sure whether or not there is a 1 year waiting period before pregnancy under the basic insurance? Meaning, do I have to be insured a full year before becoming pregnant?

Many thanks.
Nope. For basic cover, there's no qualification period.

By the way, before you start trying to conceive, you should visit your gynaecologist to make sure you're up to date on any vaccinations and that he/she can advise you on other issues beforehand (like taking your prenatal vitamins, exercise, etc.)
