I can see how someone might want a private room to have more privacy, get more quiet time/rest..etc. I also like the comment about learning from other mums, although it depends on how sociable your "roommates" are at the hospital.

I've found that some women aren't aware you can check out of the hospital quite soon after the birth. If you feel okay, you're not required to go into a recovery room for days. I think some mums like the extra help you get in the hospital, especially when it's not their first baby. But for me, I feel most comfortable recuperating at home with my family. The insurance company must love me.
